Rihanna Covers Glamour Magazine

Posted on July 27, 2011

It seems like we haven’t done a “Here’s your pretty for today” post in a while. We are ashamed at the shirking of fabugay duties. We’re supposed to be sprinkling bitchery and glitter in relative equal amounts, kittens. We’ve let you down. Here. Have some glitter.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Colinne Michaelis

Rihanna is featured in the September issue of Glamour magazine. Let’s listen in.

On hating drama…and perfection: “I hate drama. But at the same time, nothing bothers me more than when life’s perfect. And that’s the sick part. I just love a challenge, whether it’s a relationship, my career, clothing…”

On her attention getting sense of style: “Getting dressed, I want to pick the most bizarre pair of shorts so I can figure out how to make it look right, or work an outfit that will make people go, ‘What the hell is she wearing?’”

On dealing with how messy life can get: “I think honesty is the ultimate liberation in life. People want to shy away from the truth and keep sweeping it under the rug. But after a while, you pick up the rug and there’s just way too much dirt, so you might as well just be up front about it.”

On being a role model for young girls: “I want to set the right example and, at the same time, live my life….I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.”

Okay, enough of that. Feel free to assess her soundbites in the comments section, darlings. We’re here to talk about pictures.

Vionnet Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Gertrud Hegelund (IMG)

It’s a lot of the typical vamping and grinning you get with non-model celebs in editorials, but there’s a playfulness here that she doesn’t exhibit often enough. She almost always looks amazing in pictures but put the girl in some dramatic designer clothing and she WERQs the shit out of it. This is somewhere between fashion photography and, well, glamour photography. Pretty and fabulous, but not styled too extensively. Fine by us; she’s perfect for this kind of spread.

But we do have one bomb to throw. Is anyone else over the Jessica Rabbit hair?

I want that Marc Jacobs dress. GET IN MY CLOSET, IMMEDIATELY.

      • http://twitter.com/sockandaphone Gaby

i agree. send an extra my way!

      • Anonymous

I was about to say (well…write) the same thing
        that dress is perfect

      • http://twitter.com/wrenaria Kimmy Hescock

        ME TOO! Sooooo pretty.

    • http://twitter.com/herong Heron

She’s so pretty! I mean her smile is LOVELY.  That is all. I am neutral on the editorial.

    • Anonymous

Props for the color, but her hair just looks so fake. She probably has such an expensive wig/weave collection, and yet.

The rest of it is fab.

    • Anonymous

She’s a pretty girl and all, but I guess she never really struck a WERQ! vibe with me. Maybe it’s the boring hair.

Also, not going back to your woman-beater boyfriend is a good way to set a positive example. Just sayin.

    • http://www.facebook.com/raweiser Rachel Weiser

She does wear clothes so well! But yes, I agree about the hair. I enjoyed it for the little pop of shock value, but it just feels tired now. Besides, it’s distracting in most of the photographs and takes away from Rihanna’s natural charisma and ability to WERQ the shit out of those looks. Hair should not steal a girl’s limelight, after all! Cut that bitch DOWN, Rihanna darling!

      • Anonymous

Agree.  Wouldn’t she be stunning with the old Hallee B. gamine cut in jet black?

    • http://twitter.com/caratweets Cara

FLAWLESS GODDESS. Nope, not sick of the red hair here. I love it!

The teal Marc Jacobs is my favorite.

    • Anonymous

Love the look of the yellow outfit.
I wish I could feel the first dress – it looks like it would feel very good

    • Lindsey Phillips

I love her hair, I am not over it and I hope she keeps it for a while yet.

    • Anonymous

Damn but she can wear clothes. Enough with the hair though.

    • http://twitter.com/Shopgrrl81 Shopgrrl81

This is a good editorial for Rihanna because it allowed her to show another side. At this point it’s almost automatic that stylists do play up her sexiness for magazine editorials. The fourth picture in particular is just a cool and pretty 20 something being silly and having fun.

    • Jennifer Hofstetter

I was over her hair when she first got the extensions, but I think it’s actually perfect here.  I LOVE ALL THE THINGS.

    • Anonymous

Beautiful girl. She looks amazing here. I kind of love those pants she’s wearing on the cover.

    • Anonymous

Ooh, good clothing choices all around.

    • http://twitter.com/OhDoogs Laura McDougal

SECONDED on being over the Jessica Rabbit hair, although some days it actually reminds me more of Sideshow Bob.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=512704129 Faith Bowman

i am over that humonguloid weave. but i adore riri…fun pics!

    • Vaniljekjeks

The clothes are incredible and I want them all, but I am so tired of that ridiculous hairdo.  The big red hair and matching lips is really distracting.

    • Anonymous

LOVE THE SHOT WITH THE MARC JACOBS!
I don’t like her music, but girl knows how to wear clothes.

    • sonictofu

The red hair looks good through the filter on this particular camera, better than it does in red carpet photos.  I expected it to last a month or two, but she won’t give it up.

    • Anonymous

Every thing is pretty except for the clown hair.

    • Anonymous

I rather like the Jessica Rabbit hair, actually.  It seems like it’s becoming a signature at this point, and it’s certainly dramatic.  On her.

    • MilaXX

I think she looks great. The Vionnet dress looks a million times better on her than it did on Diane Kruger. The red hair is styled the best I’ve seen in a long time. I just don’t think she knows what else to do with the hair. It’s been black, brown, shave, and blonde, what’s next?

      • Anonymous

I knew I’d seen that dress somewhere, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember who was wearing it. It’s such a fabulous dress, but it’s not for everyone. It overwhelmed Diane. Rihanna looks amazing in it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/SuperHelen007 Helen Booth

I love her smile in the fourth picture, lights up the whole frame. And yes on the Marc Jacobs dress.

    • http://twitter.com/VicksieDo Vickie Lord

I feel like pop stars can’t be rock stars anymore because they have to be role models, and it takes the fun out of it for us, because we just want to have fun with art.  — POOR BABY!  BARFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

Love her in the Yves look, but that it’s. Call me crazy but I just don’t love the Marc Jacobs dress.. if it’s not flattering on those two girls, who could make it so? BUT… I LOVEEEEE that Givenchy skirt… that print is so fab.

    • Anonymous

I don’t get the “typical vamping and grinning you get with non-model celebs” comment.  She looks like an editorial model to me here.  How would you two suggest that she look more modelicious?

    • Anonymous

At first, I wasn’t really digging the Marc Jacobs much, but on her the look sings! She looks fabulous in all these looks, but particularly smashing in the MJ. Luv huh!

      • Anonymous

I don’t particularly like the Marc Jacobs dress, but the placement of the black lace on the back is genius.  From the side, it whittles down her waist and makes her look even more bootylicious!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lauren-Jean-St-Martin/504251897 Lauren Jean St. Martin

      Sick of her.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C65IT4K6RYN4TWRMFJOI3VUDAI Olechka Milashka

I was over the spiky bob, but I am still loving the long curly Jessica Rabbit hair :)

    • Anonymous

The hair is looking horribly Ronald McDonald-esque on the cover. Not a fan of the hair, but she is awfully pretty. I adore the YSL and I think she looks especially lovely in that shot.

    • Judy_J

She looks very pretty, and I do like the clothes.  However, the fire-engine red hair is becoming a bit tiresome.

    • Anonymous

Pop stars can’t be rock stars because they are not rock stars. The clothes are gorgeous, she makes an acceptable mannequin.

    • Anonymous

She looks great, wearing all of these looks very well.  YES, the hair is OVER, DONE, TACKY, AWFUL.

    • Cheri Lee

How to be objective about a model when you don’t like the model??  She and her hair annoy me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Vella/666619877 Matthew Vella

I am so NOT over the red hair! LOVE it! Hope she keeps it!

    • margaret meyers

i think she looks forced and tired and old.  this hair-don’t is not catching on.

    • Anonymous

She’s making those clothes ROCK. Don’t care about the soundbites. Can go either way on the hair. On the red carpet it’s been looking eh lately, but here it looks stunning on her. Maybe partly due to touching up, or styling and makeup and lighting, but she’s rocking it.

      –M

    • Anonymous

She is ridiculously photogenic. In fact, I think if I had to pick any celebrity to look like, it would be her. Booty-ful.

    • Anonymous

I love the picture with the top hat… the rest I can take or leave, I’m not feeling much one way or the other.  As for her hair… the length, I’m over, but I always have and likely always will love red hair.

As for the sound bites… honey, you choose fame and you will be a role-model for someone, somewhere.  It just comes with the territory.  If you just want to “have fun with art” and not worry about anyone or anything, then don’t look for the fame part of things and stay someone that hipsters everyone will get a secret kick out of mentioning and then adding “but you’ve probably never heard of her.”

    • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

i’d be over the hair {as ever: i already wore the hair myself, years ago} but this is the best her hair has looked, i think, ever.
so: no. if she keeps it up she still has time.

she is making some beautiful clothes look more beautiful & some ghastly clothes actually look great. good job. if i remember correctly some starlet wore the first blue lace dress? i just cant remember who it was, altho i do remember on whoever it was, it was underwhelming. this is how to wear that dress.

      • Alyson Lamble

It was Diane Kruger who wore the Vionnet.  And yes, it looked pretty awful on her.

    • Anonymous

I ADORE that Vionnet dress. Didn’t someone else wear it, or one similar, recently?

Totally over the Ronald McDonald locks. If you haven’t checked out the “sexy” female Ronald in the Japanese McDonald’s ads, you should. I think of that model whenever I see Rihanna.

      • Anonymous

It was La Kruger who wore it. I love it on both of them.

    • Anonymous

Normally I’d be right there with you on the hair because I really prefer reality-based hair color on people, but for me the red just works on her. She could keep it that shade forever, if she wanted.

    • Mariah J

I hated her red hair at first, now it’s growing on me.

    • Anonymous

These are some of the best pictures I’ve seen of her. I love that hair on her and hope she keeps it for awhile longer. She looks amazing in every single outfit and with the exception of the Givenchy, I want every single one of those pieces for myself (in my fantasy fashion dream world where such things are actually possible) – way to sell it Ri-Ri!

    • Anonymous

I still like the hair. I hate to think of how much it costs to keep it looking perfect, though.

    • Anonymous

SO over that hair. Never liked it. Looked like she stuck her head in a bowl of melted crayon. Have fun on stage fine but enough already

    • Lisa

Never liked the hair, but she really does look fabulous in these pics!

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

She looks *so* much better in the clothes than the models.  Jessica Rabbit hair! Ha Ha! My girl crush is still rocking it, though.

    • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous here and is certainly WERQing the clothes. The glam shots really suit her. While I too am over the JRabbit hair I think it looks hot in this photo shoot.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Love the layouts, love the clothes, and still digging the hair. It’s a signature look at this point.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WHNNFE5WECZTAXYUK35ZG5UOBY Jessica

She looks better than the model in every. single. case.  She just breathes life into clothing.  Flawless.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

      Wow.  she looks fabulous.

    • Anonymous

LOVE the Vionnet dress so much… she looks beautiful. Not sick of the hair, actually. It’s just her.

    • Anonymous

I don’t get the hair. Never liked it. It’s so limiting because it clashes with so much… and is really an ugly color, plus it’s just so fake looking. I would love to see her rock her natural hair.

    • Anonymous

She makes every outfit look better! I can’t imagine her with any other hair at this point, it’s her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=49702581 Susan Bullard Mayer

I can do nothing but stare at her sequined ass in the cover photo.  That is one bodacious ass!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.parker Sara Parker

I actually kind of like the red hair, still.  She had that rockin short cut for such a long time, I feel like this is her way of doing long hair but still being playful/edgy about it.  And she looks great here, excellent choice for some pretty!

    • Anonymous

That yellow Givenchy is stunningly beautiful. But with Rhianna’s hair it looks like Ronald McDonald’s sister’s outfit.

I don’t understand why people who sing songs that others wrote, star in videos that others produced, and run around in outfits that others designed, still consider themselves “artists.” Art is also about technique, not just expression, and I’m just not sure if dry-humping microphone stands during concerts qualifies as technical enough to be considered some kind of art.

i love the hair.  i’m a sucker for a redhead.   and come on now, it’s not supposed to look natural.  she looks gorgeous, and that’s a prize-winning ass, if there ever were a contest.  the vionnet is my favorite.

    • Anonymous

Without exception, every piece looks better on her than on the runway model.  WERQ those curves, girl!

    • http://twitter.com/Unclassical Alexandria N

you’re loosing your minds to the heat or getting jaded or something. shut of your computer and go for a walk. RIHANNA RED ROCKS. (btw it’s not called Jessica Rabit hair anymore, it’s Rihanna Red. duh.) and no, no one is sick of it but you, you picky overheating bitches. smooches.

    • Anonymous

She’s totally fabulous. Yes, the hair should go, but these pictures are amazing. I’m so glad they didn’t go the broody way, with her staring in the distance. The Marc Jacobs and Vionnet dresses are perfectly showcased. Didn’t someone else wear the Vionnet dress already?

    • Bree The Vole

Despite my pear shape, I want that Marc Jacobs dress. It’s amazing. I’m not bored with the hair yet but I’d like to see her rocking something else, just like she rocks everything else. Something about her is just so damn appealing.

    • http://twitter.com/RosamundYoung Rosamund Young

Who was the photographer? My money’s on Rankin, the shot on the bed is very similar to a pic he took of Dita von Teese

    • Anonymous

It’s weird to see her in normal clothes, but, holy cats. Could she look any more fabulous. She even makes that yellow nightmare look great.

I love the Jessica Rabbit hair. As sleah_in_norcal said above, it’s not supposed to look natural. She’s a pop star, not a lawyer. And I just have a thing for crazy hair. It makes me nostalgic for my own crazy hair from many years ago.

I’ve always thought of her as voluptuous, but she looks quite thin in these photos. Not in an unhealthy way, just much thinner. Photoshopped to death, perhaps?

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

The hair is great all these clothes–and Jessica Rabbit is right. It works better with sparkly-sultry than with pouty-sultry–I mean, in these delightful photos she is just very animated!. That Givenchy belongs to Beyonce, though, I thought.

    • Anonymous

she makes that givenchy look INFINITELY better than the model…  and although i’m over the jessica rabbit hair (it’s been like this a few months, so i’m sure it’s due to be changed soon) i like the way the stylist used it as a point of contrast/accessory in this shoot.  nothing clashes, everything compliments.

    • Anonymous

I truly, truly hate her hair.  She is such a pretty woman with a killer bod, and that hair is completely distracting.

    • http://twitter.com/aimstar_vz Aimée Van Zile

i think she looks amazing in the marc jacobs and vionnet but AGREED, so over the jessica rabbit hair.
bring back the combover skunk mohawk!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

She has the prettiest face.  I don’t hate the hair, but I’ve always loved it short so it doesn’t distract from her face like this long red does. She’s still working the hell out of every shot.  Loves.

    • Anonymous

Beyond over the hair! I was going to type those very words. She needs to go back to short.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T24URKJGBLJQPBWCRPU37IIHLU Krab Louse

She looks incredible.  I rocked that same hair colour and almost the same ‘do about 15 years ago and I loved it.  Just having that hair colour made me want to put an effort into my appearance.  You can’t walk out with flaming red hair and not wear a killer outfit to go with it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2B6U4UNVYIV5DLEG6Z24ALYOC4 Dan Alexander

      Ronald McDonald’s love child!

    • Anonymous

The hair must stay! Its almost becoming iconic…just another year. I love how she can match her lipstick to her hair and it looks AH-MAY-ZING! I’m biased though because I have to force myself not to wear red.

    • http://twitter.com/mallorylaporte Mallory Laporte

I’m not sick of the red hair. It looks great on her. I love it and wish I could pull it off. She had what I assume is her natural black hair for a long time, although in many different styles. Maybe she could try a cut/wig in a different style.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I HATE the red hair.  I think it looks so cheap – not like really good extensions, but a cheap halloween type wig.  Other than that, she’s beautiful and wears the hell out of those clothes.

    • Anonymous

      Over craycray RhiRhi.

    • http://twitter.com/capt_shiny Mags

Ugh, I am so over the lava red hair.

    • http://www.facebook.com/suzie.vazquez Suzie Vazquez

She must have heard you. Her hair is no longer this color..

    • Shona S

Sick of the hair? Absolutely NOT. I love it because it seems like she likes it, instead of it being what her image consultants want or what the latest trend is. She is the Helena Bonham-Carter of hair; it’s cracktastic and I love her for it.

    • Anonymous

I’m just glad that the editorial had nothing to do with Africa, jungles or being animalistic. Talk about shit getting old…

      This is great!
