Let’s take a short break from Project Runway bitchery and get some red carpet bitchery out of our systems, darlings.
Freida Pinto and James Franco at 20th Century Fox Los Angeles Premiere of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in Hollywood. Freida Pinto is wearing a Juan Carlos Obando gown paired with Brian Atwood shoes.
They make a very striking couple, so long as you don’t look too close.
HE: Is wearing a pretty great suit. The color’s a bit heavy and autumnal-looking, but we love a man who can rock a plaid suit in this day and age. The hem is too long on the pants, of course. The tie was a great choice but it looks like it was tied by an 11-year-old Catholic school boy. And maybe it’s for a role, but we’re all about being unfair here: the hair, both on top of his head and on his face, does not suit him at all. He looks a little sloppy and dirty. Score: 6.5/10. Nice suit, badly detailed.
SHE: Has made green her signature color. In fact, we’re such red carpet whores that we think of bright, brilliant greens when her name comes up. She’s smart, because it suits her exactly and it’s not a color one sees on the red carpet, which means it’s both attention-getting and a bit of a statement. Having said that, we don’t love this dress. From the back, it’s got a beautiful drape to it, but from the front – and we don’t know if this is a dress issue, fit issue, or she’s just not wearing it correctly – it makes her entire torso look very droopy. Her hair is good, but looks a bit helmet-y from the back, and her makeup is flawless. Love the little pops of subtle color in the jewelry. Just right. And since there’s so much color above, we don’t actually mind the neutral pumps this time. She’s a woman of color, so they actually contrast with her skin instead of making her look like she has hooves. Score: 7.5/10. There’s a lot of great stuff here, but the droopy boobs are hard to ignore. Also, the extremely asymmetrical hem bothers us.
Combined score: 7/10. Not bad, but a little zhuzhing and shifting might have made a difference here. Keep trying, kids.
