Miu Miu Resort 2012 Collection

Posted on July 18, 2011

We look at the 2 gals modeling this collection and it feels like we’re watching two young ladies who just discovered the ’80s section of a particularly well-stocked vintage clothing store. It’s not literal ’80s (thank god), but with the bright colors and patterns, puffy sleeves and puffy skirts, big pink purses, gingham slingbacks, a hint of rockabilly, and a metric shit-ton of costume jewelry, it sure reminds us of the Reagan decade, only without the big hair and padded shoulders. It’s a cute, young collection. These are the kinds of clothes they should’ve dressed Hailee Steinfeld in for their ad campaign.

Love the coat.  But why are the models pissed off?

I had the same thought :P

Why do Mom and Dad keep dragging us to this stupid resort and make us go to dumb parties dressed in heels, gloves and heavy, old-lady jewelry?!

            Check out her gloves…

Awesome site!  I find it very beautiful and inspirational!  Thank you for sharing the link.

          • Anonymous

            Yes, exactly.

      • Anonymous

Seriously, the brunette looks really mad.

      • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

I know, I can’t even focus on the clothes, the models are so distracting.

        • Anonymous

I agree with you.  After scrolling through the entire post I realized I could not tell you what the clothes looked like, all I can remember is the scowling dark haired model.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_B53PQYXSJR4YJBV3J6BWYSICRQ Jamie

I was thinking the same thing.  Come on girls, the 80’s were FUN!

      • Anonymous

Those are some angry, angry eyebrows.

      • Anonymous

i think it’s meant to contrast with the happy girly clothes. also the brunette looks really butch which is a good thing.  imagine if the models looked all smiley and sweet, it would just be too much.

      • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

Maybe because they’re attached at the crotch? That would piss me off…

    • Anonymous

This feels very Miu Miu.  Fun, flirty with a nice edge to it.

    • Anonymous

Careful ! You’re gonna show the good china.

    • http://parisiennelauren.wordpress.com/ Lauren

Blonde model’s face is so similar to January Jones’ that it’s creeping me out…

      • Anonymous

She reminds me more of Ginnifer Goodwin (complete with angry face)

I think I could be in Jem and the Holograms in those Lightning Dresses.  Finally!

    • http://twitter.com/elialger Eliana Alger

      The shoes …♥♥♥!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1248212910 Jessie Melcher Brown

I lived the 80’s (graduated HS in 82) and this is very familiar, except –
      1.  You need little granny boots instead of heels
      2.  Smile!  The 80’s were shallow but fun :-)

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michelle-Shields/1200782178 Michelle Shields

Class of 83 here! I agree with both points! I would have totally rocked this look!

      • Anonymous

Class of 82, woohoo. God yes, the granny boots! You HAD to wear them with any and all dresses.

      • Anonymous

Class of 88, wore my granny boots everywhere and I’m pretty sure I had stationery or a notebook like the lightning bolt dresses.  They loved those grid backgrounds in the 80’s, didn’t they?

      • Anonymous

Another ’82 grad here. Thanks, Jessie – I think I’ll wear granny boots to the 30-year reunion next year. Loved them so!

“it sure reminds us of the Reagan decade, only without the big hair and padded shoulders”—

and the false sense of optimism!

Ooooo–that makes me a more than slightly bitter kitten.

      • Anonymous

huh.   There was far more reason for most people to be optimistic then than now.    Cripes.

Why so cranky, models?  Too much caffeine?

I had a dream last night, a nightmare really, wherein my mother went shopping for me and bought me a dress made of  thick, hot, shiny, lined satin with a neckline that was high in the back and low in the front and shoulder pads, and she forced me to wear it backwards, thus invading my touchy neck space and giving me a case of clothing claustrophobia.  I was a giant, shiny football player in a panic.  I woke up disoriented and sweating.  And now this collection.  Is the universe trying to tell me something, you think?

I do find the gingham shoes to be kind of cute.  My shame is complete.

    • http://profiles.google.com/withano Loren S

I feel like models should smile when they’re wearing such happy clothes!

    • Anonymous

Ew, no. 80s clothes were ugly, but not THIS ugly.
I do kind of love the gingham shoes, though.

    • Anonymous

There’s two young ladies who woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. It kind of takes away from the vibe of the clothes.

    • Anonymous

      In. Sane. But kinda fun.

    • Terence Ng

Not myc up of tea, but I have to admit that the standing models are pulling some fierceness.

    • Anonymous

hahahahaha Those dresses they’re wearing with the gingham slingbacks look like the opening to Saved by the Bell!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_COO4CCCPEVDT7IG5IOVGN3AZAM Its Yo Hipsta Treyshon

      What’s with the stink eye?

    • Anonymous

Love the gingham heels and the clutches. The dresses, not so much.

    • Anonymous

I know this collection wasn’t meant to be a literal translation of the fabulous ’80’s, but it doesn’t really bring it to mind for me. Believe me, I lived trhough and LOVED the ’80’s and the only thing that strikes a chord of familiarity are the prints and colors. The rest, meh. And yeah, why are the models so pissed?

    • http://pleasewelcomeyourjudges.com/ Brian @ PWYJudges

      LOVE those gingham slingbacks!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

the expressions on the models’ faces really distracts from the clothes.

    • Anonymous

The blond looks petulant.  The brunette looks angry/disturbed.  (her eyebrows???)

    • Anonymous

Cranky models with slappy-happy clothes.  I don’t get it.  What kind of statement are they making? Other than the brilliant one suggested by altalinda, below.

Don’t much care for these clothes. But absolutely hate the jewelry.

    • Jillian Kroos

Cheer up, ladies! You’re wearing pretty clothes!

    • Anonymous

Wow, those girls really look pissed off! I don’t want to buy clothes that make me cranky.

    • lilibetp

Photo #4:  Ellie Mae Clampett goin’ to a barn dance.  I saw some gingham espadrilles the other day that would really go with this dress.  All she needs to do is add some bedazzling and she’s ready to dance.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

The shoes are cute (not that I could ever wear them), but the clothes are fugly. The dresses in the second picture look like they were made from hospital gowns.

I was in high school during the 80s and I always dread the notion of 80s styles coming back.

    • Anonymous

I think these clothes are just horribly ugly. The modles sure aren’t helping to sell them either. I can’t imagine anyone I know wearing a single article of clothing in these pictures.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1225887541 Abby Davis

The clothing is great. The models are bland. How can you look bored in fun clothing? That’s a huge turn off in a campaign.

    • Kari Popovic

The brunette looks baffled, not mad. And I remember the 80s as being WAY more fun and WAY less uptight than this schtick is. Ugh. I don’t know what kind of evil sorcery this is, but somehow, the models and photographer have managed to suck out every. single. ounce of joy that this collection SHOULD have inspired. This is what my kids would feel like if we went into FAO Shwartz and I said, “absolutely no touching”.

    • Anonymous

Apart form the clothes being ill-proportioned and the accessories either lackluster or simply too heavy; just exactly what resort or vacation location on earth would this most of this be appropriate?  Gloves in resort wear? REALLY?  I’ll grant you a few items are fine for a resot collection, but nothing at all is inspired or interesting.  The acceptable pieces are all bland derivatives of other peoples stuff.

    • Anonymous

Oh and fellow kittens the reason they are both so pissed off looking is this crap is going into their resume’s.

    • Anonymous

      strangely topshop…

    • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

I guess I know what to wear next time I want to be horribly annoyed and have no fun whatsoever. Do like the polka dot shoes, though.

    • MilaXX

Looks like an ad for a John Hughes film.

    • Anonymous

Okay, I know that “matchy matchy” shoes are bad (although I haven’t quite figured out why),  but can someone please tell me why the way the gingham slingbacks are paired with the outfits in the second to the last picture are considered “fashionable”?

    • Anonymous

Absolutely love the gingham shoes but almost none of the clothes (with the exception of that first jacket and the red peplum one).

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

      The faces… are so distracting.

    • Anonymous

Meh on most of clothes, get me those gingham sling backs pronto!!!

    • http://twitter.com/margo8461 Marguerite

Like the coat in first pic and jackets in 3rd pic. Rest of collection doesn’t do anything for me. Too much pouf and fluff with too short hemlines. If someone dressed me up in these clothes I would not be happy either. lol

    • http://twitter.com/margo8461 Marguerite

Why do they look so pissed off?  They got a lucrative modeling gig and a chance to wear some cute clothes that they didn’t have to pay for.  So lighten up, Girls.

    • Anonymous

Much as I love gingham and polka dots, the white blouse with the cerise skirt is the only one that jumped out at me. Most of the other ones look like art class projects best worn by 17 year olds, sorry.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1378141705 Gretchen Jacobsen

It says 50s, filtered through a 20 year old etsy upcycler’s idea of what 80s were. And that’s not completely a bad thing but it says born in 1989 more than anything else.

    • Anonymous

Loving the gingham shoes! Fun socialite party clothes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

I love the gingham shoes. Meh to the rest.

    • http://twitter.com/A_SmallFry AC

Why are they clutching each other like that? They clearly hate each other…

    • Anonymous

All I see are two very angry girls wearing mom’s clothes.

    • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

what on earth? I do like the pink dress in the last set of pictures, though.

    • Anonymous

I used to have that red gingham dress.. just cheaper fabric.  I bought it at Contempo Casuals!

    • Anonymous

If only I had had those legs in the 80s….  *sigh*

    • MilaXX

The weird thing is these models look too old for these clothes. I guess it would be interesting to Hailee & even Elle modeling them.

    • Anonymous

      80s meets 50s = 130s?

    • Anonymous

Cute collection. It’s great for The Fannings and Hailee Steinfeld. I’m not crazy about the stiletto heel with with super short full skirts, but I love the gloves.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3CGY36NG25QFIZQOLMH7SQTKLU andrew

Love the shoes.  hate the models. Not crazy about the clothes, with a few exceptions.

    • Anonymous

I love the gingham shoes, and the red coat/dress.

    • Anonymous

The shoes are the clear winner here. I’m surprised you didn’t have bad comments on the ankle straps. Personally, I love them.

    • http://twitter.com/omg_dora Dora K.

The models are angry at me and I can’t see the clothes properly the way they are sitting/slouching/making out. I *think* there are some pretty clothes here but I don’t understand this photoshoot.

    • foodycat

Love the ankle strap shoes, but why the frowns? What if the wind changes and their poor faces are stuck that way?

    • Anonymous

That dark haired model’s squint is wreaking it for me, why don’t they have make-up on, and I hate the gloves.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YMEB3XKJCE4WL62SKN473LWBXQ Frank

Wow! Love those shoes! Also, the collection looks cute!

    • http://aintbaroque.wordpress.com/ Ain’t Baroque

      Gingham slingbacks, please be mine.

    • http://aintbaroque.wordpress.com/ Ain’t Baroque

      Gingham slingbacks, please be mine.

they look so anemic and pissy. Doesn’t really sell the clothes.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

      Dear God.

Why must they look so grumpy???

      YOU’RE WEARING GINGHAM.

      Cheer the fuck up!

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

Looks more like an eighties girl discovering the late 40s/ early 50s to me.

    • Anonymous

This collection is a lot more enjoyable if you scroll up so the heads are cut off.  That way you can look at the shoes without being distracted by the brunette model’s cyborg death glare.

    • Anonymous

It’s as if they found the 80’s section and HATE it!  Could they look more angry please?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I only noticed the shoes.  And the shoes, the shoes, I love.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=566983224 Erin Leahy

probs my favorite resort collection so far. Well.. maybe. Anyways.  Its beautiful and FUN!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MGQ6DQNK4FS43T6A2B4KDUFG6Q Steph

It looks like they instructed the ladies to pretend that they were trying to make something out in the distance. What do you think they imagined they were looking at?
