In or Out: Rachel Weisz in Valentino

Posted on July 29, 2011

You guys, we are totally weirded out by this funhouse mirror image of Rachel Weisz:

Rachel Weisz attends a screening of ‘The Whistleblower’ hosted by the Cinema Society & Dior Beauty in NYC in a Valentino dress.

Valentino Resort 2012 Collection/Model: Ruby Aldridge

Her hair makes her head look lopsided and her shoes are HUGE. We’re getting a little dizzy just looking at her.

The dress is very cute, although maybe just a skosh youthful; maybe not so much too youthful for her (although, shoulder bows) as it is too youthful for the sedate styling. Clutch and earrings are fine, but those silly putty shoes are UGLY. And totally wrong against her bare legs. Put that all together with a hairstyle that’s way too lacquered and severe for the look and the whole thing just feels off. Like we need Dramamine just to look at it.

VOTE NOW!

IN! She looks sleek and sophisticated, bitches!

OUT! Whoa! I think I’m gonna hurl!

The Minion Opinion on Mila Kunis’ “HELLO, MOSCOW!” dress was IN and Kelly Rowland’s “perfume bottle and a wig” look got a vehement OUT.

IN.  She looks lovely, despite the too-big shoes.

Love those (flat) sandals on the model!

    • Anonymous

I totally agree. The sandals on the model are fantastic and Rachel’s shoes are hideous. The dress looks really great though, although maybe she should have worn them off the shoulder like the model. I say she’s In.

  • http://twitter.com/asciident Melissa Della

Hate the big silly bows, hate the shoes, but most of all…I hate whatever her hair and makeup are doing to her face. Augh. OUT

    • Anonymous

She’s a stunning woman, so I mean no insult by this, but I looked at some other pictures, and it does seem that one of her eyes is a bit bigger than the other. I think the hair emphasizes that a bit, but I’m totally okay with that. It’s a little quirk that makes her even more interesting to look at. I still think she looks picture perfect. Well…from the ankles up. IN. In spite of some terrible (and terribly ill-fitting) shoes.

  • Courtney Hellams

I love the dress but the shoes are killing me. Sorry, Rachel, you’re out.

  • Anonymous

Looks like an early 90′s homecoming dance dress with awful shoes. So much OUT.

  • Anonymous

Out.  The dress is cute on the model, and it’s not bad on Rachel, but she needs to put the bows where they go and get rid of the horrible hair.  Those shoes are burning my eyes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720742723 Sarah Winningham

    Staid but lovely: in.

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Yeah, she looks weird. OUT. By the way, how do people walk in pumps that big? They’re like flip flops when they’re too big. I don’t get it. Are they glued to her feet?

    • Anonymous

I always wonder that. Are they shuffling their feet when they walk because otherwise I can’t see how they can walk. When my shoes flop off the back the only thing I want to do is rip them off my feet.

    • Anonymous

You have to sort of scrunch up your toes to keep them on your feet.

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

She should have worn the shoulders like the model. They just look like capped sleeves on the tops of her shoulders. Weird.

  • Anonymous

I don’t dislike the hair ata ll and despite the shoulder bows, that is a great little dress on her.  Yes, the shoes are all sorts of wrong but I have to go with IN.

  • Anonymous

The dress is cute.  Wish she’d left the shoulder bows where they are on the model.  Those shoes, though…yikes.  Honestly, I’m not a big fan of the clutch, either.  It looks like diamond plate.  Overall, I say OUT.  There’s just something off-putting about the whole ensemble.

    • http://summerborn.livejournal.com/ Summer Born

The model’s dress has an interesting cut in the neckline too – that would be needed if the shoulders were, well, off the shoulder.

  • http://profiles.google.com/mercbubble42 Jessica O’Connell

IN. I think her hair looks fine and the dress is very cute! And sometimes, in order to be comfortable, you need to wear pumps that are a little too big, so she is forgiven, though I don’t like the color either…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

OUT because of the styling… the hair makes her face look misshapen and the dress is just meh

  • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

the whole business makes a tall, thin woman look peculiarly proportioned, funhouse mirror-style, just as you said. very odd, should be an easy thing for just about anyone to realistically wear, but {in particular, accentuated by those weird shoulder caps} it doesnt work at all.

  • Ted Kane

Part of me wants to shout “Go Veronica Lake or go home!” but I think she looks pretty good here, so IN.

    • Anonymous

My first thought was, “Veronica Lake” as well. I actually like it on her, but the shoes are atrocious.

  • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Gotta say, I love the clutch, but you’re right, something’s seriously off. Well Rachel hon, you can’t have it all…

  • Jennifer Hofstetter

Disagree about the hair.  Totally agree about the shoes.  Overall she looks gorgeous.  IN.

  • Anonymous

You know, despite what the news media may talk about, the biggest failure of this Congress is failing to pass legislation banning the nude shoe.

    –GothamTomato

  • Anonymous

IN.  But the shoes are a crime.  The rest of the look is put together, clean, fits well and suit her.  Plus, I covet her hair and her husband, not in that order.

  • Anonymous

I’ll also say I like the bows this way, and sometimes you just gotta have straps. Until mankind invents a strapless bra that REALLY works, sometimes a girl has to move the bows to cover the straps.

  • http://twitter.com/samo_samo Angela Toomer

IN…not loving the shoes, but I can overlook them.

  • Anonymous

She doesn’t own any shoes that fit and look good?
My shoe budget is very limited but I could come up with something more appropriate in less than 30 minutes, and they’d fit.
Her hair and accessories don’t go with this youthful dress.
She could do so much better.

    OUT

  • carolie_king

This looks like a pretty girl who’s very uncomfortable with herself.  I don’t see Rachel here at all… It’s on the line, but I’m leaning toward OUT.

  • Jessica Rowe

    I adore the dress!

  • aussiegal77

I love the red dress on her but those shoulder bows are distracting.  Makes it seem like she’s 12 playing dress ups in Mum’s evening best.  Why do they never wear shoes their own size?  I hate that.  Also, the nude shoe doesn’t work here.  Her hair, I do like but I do agree  that it’s a bit overstyled.  Clutch is fine but overall, she’s all tense and nervous.  Like she doesn’t want her hair to move an inch.  Have to say it’s an OUT.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sntierney Shannon Tierney

She needs heel inserts. As someone who wears super high heels way too often, they always fit fine at the beginning of the evening but your foot gradually slips down further into the shoe and then the heel is too big. The trick is to squosh your foot in at the beginning so it is trapped on all sides.

  • MilaXX

    OUT
Between the shoulder bows and hair it looks like she’s channeling Kristen Davis channeling her SATC character Charlotte. The shoes are too big and this particular fugly shade of nude borders on pink, making them even more hiddy and despite the fact that the dress is red, it’s BORING.

  • http://twitter.com/elialger Eliana Alger

The Bows are killing me!!…I keep looking at her and Im thinking more and more about Minnie Mouse?…I dont know…For me the style on the model looks better, at least less Disney…So for me is an OUT

  • Anonymous

Are we 100% sure that this is Rachel Weisz? This woman doesn’t look a thing like her.

Anyway, iIt’s a mystery to me how these women manage to walk in shoes that are two sizes too large. If my shoes are even a little loose at the heel, I get those heel inserts to put in, otherwise I can’t walk with them slipping off my feet. ESPECIALLY heels!

Nude shoes don’t bother me as much as they do most people here, but this particular pair is really fugly.

  • Anonymous

I like the dress. I think it’s cute, and I love the shoulder bows. So I give the dress an IN. But, the outfit as a whole looks confused and therefore I give the Ms. Weisz an OUT.

  • Anonymous

This looks pretty much says “Go ahead and criticize. I just bagged Daniel Craig.” Rachel Weisz is a stunningly gorgeous woman, but I don’t blame her for concentrating on, um, other things right now.

sometimes you guys are just…  intense.  i also think a LOT of outfits that get such complaints look much better in person than in the glow of tons of flashbulbs.

  • http://twitter.com/Wintour91 manionista wintour

I’m not as cranky as you bitches. I think she looks pretty here. IN.  The heels are A BIT oversized, not TOO BIG. Sheesh..

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

IN – The shoes are a null, the dress is great, hair is pretty. It’s not the most stunning look in the world, but it gets the job done.

  • Elena

I’m giving it an out, not because it looks weird to me but because it bores me.

  • http://twitter.com/mcglory13 mcglory13

She looks fine. It’s not an in or an out here, it’s a meh.

  • Anonymous

I’m hating the shoes but overall I’m going with IN

  • Vaniljekjeks

Out.  The dress looks ok, but those shoes ruin the whole look because they are too big and they are fuck-ugly.

    OUT.

Out. It doesn’t even look like her! Something very wrong with that hair.

  • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

I just feel sorry for her with those shoes. They are bizarre.

  • Anonymous

A marginal IN.  She does look a bit off, and I don’t like the way the dress creases at her waist.  But can’t say she looks bad.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.parker Sara Parker

She’s in, but barely.  If I were an amalgamation of Heidi and Nina and Michael, I would have let her off with a warning that styling matters, and you can’t just grab any old thing off the [Insert Advertiser's Name Here] accessories wall.  The dress is cute, though.

  • Anonymous

Where’s her arm candy (aka Daniel Craig)? I give her an IN minus.

  • Anonymous

She is IN. the shoes should be black and a size smaller, but everything else looks fine.

  • Anonymous

I clicked on the post without reading the title of it and seriously thought that I was looking at Kiera Knightley. The hairstyle is really what threw me off and I don’t find it flattering on her. Dress looks cute, hate the shoes. IN

  • Sharon Weissburg

OUT. A little imagination, please? Please???

  • Anonymous

In. She’s beautiful and that overcomes any shoe-nanigans.

  • Anonymous

IN though I agree that the pumps don’t appear to fit, add nothing to the outfit and are boring. But the RW sandals are too flat, featureless and casual. Another sandal, one with a higher heel and perhaps some fun jewels or beading, might have been better, and a quirky color choice could also have been a lot more fun. It’s too bad metallic leather is out because so often that’s the best choice for pairing with a monochromatic outfit. Imagine a distressed gunmetal grey or platinum with the red dress, or even copper or bronze. Zing.

I like the sleek red sheath, the bows are just this side of OK (youthful? well she isn’t exactly a grandma). I don’t mind her hair or the boring clutch. (BTW, Judith Leiber, where are you? Her stuff — new or vintage — is so much more fun — all the RC gals need to pay closer attention to HBC’s purse choices!!)

    Out.

  • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

She’s too pretty here to be out, so she’s in.  But I can see how it’s a bit too youthful for the accessories she’s paired with this dress.

    • margaret meyers

Exactly: “she’s too pretty here to be out…”

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Bitches. She looks great. HATE the shoes with a passion though.

Awww, I think she looks really lovely. I agree that the shoes are bad, but overall I think she’s looks classic. IN

  • Anonymous

Even though the red is so perfect and her makeup looks fantastic and I don’t mind her hair, it’s OUT because I loathe her shoes and because she married Daniel Craig (I had a dream….)

  • Anonymous

    ugh…those shoes are awful!

Cute dress…looks better with the bows on the arms like the model is wearing…Rachel’s bows look sad.  Other than that, she’s IN…but just standard/safe.

The odd camera fun house illusions are all to common with RC photographers..hacks.

  • Anonymous

Maybe with the cute bows and too big shoes she was going for a little girl playing dress-up look.  OUT

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1027947445 Jennifer Von B

    Love her, but OUT.

  • Judy_J

Those big ol’ shoes make me give her a big ol’ OUT.

  • Judy_J

Those big ol’ shoes make me give her a big ol’ OUT.

  • margaret meyers

The dress looks great on her:  it fits her fine body well, she’s standing up straight and her hair and makeup are attractive. Expecting perfection in every aspect is unreasonable. Stop staring at the screen and over thinking this.

    IN!

    • AWStevens

TLo’s job is to over think. They are the Baast to our inner bitter kitten…

  • Anonymous

It’s hard to muster up enough energy to care one way or the other, but I dislike the bows and the whole top half of the dress just seems off proportionally. Out.

The bows on the shoulders are giving me a sick headache. Otherwise she looks fine.

  • Anonymous

I rather like how she looks, although I like the version that the model is wearing better—-it has a sculpted (rather than straight) neckline, and she is wearing the bows down across the upper arms, rather than over the shoulder.  Totally agree about the shoes……sigh, what *is* it with these people and ill-fitting, no-color shoes?  Sorry to be a disagreeable kitten but I’m voting IN on this one.

  • Anonymous

Those shoes alone are worthy of an out.  They are so, so ugly.  And why are they so huge?  Why would anyone pick a huge, ugly shoe like that?  They are so wrong for the dress.  And look at how she’s standing in that last pic.  She looks so uncomfortable, like she knows it’s not working.

    OUT!

  • Anonymous

OUT. In is not the absence of awful, it has to have some highly positive facet, even if there are other, detracting facets.

    There’s nothing outstanding here.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6PUVFQ7YCZZFZRIER6BEJ4HVYE Amye

It’s a toughie, but those shoes & that terrible hairstyle overrule the cuteness of the dress. It’s not THAT cute, so she’s an OUT!

  • Robert Sanchez

Kinda boring, but inoffensive. Strappy high-heeled sandals would have been cuter. In.

  • Anonymous

Seriously, did she skin a RealDoll to get those pumps?  But hey… nude shoes are the current fad all the kids are doing.  Other than that, nothing is really bad about the look… not even the Nellie Olsen bows.  I’m gonna go with **IN**.

  • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

Do you think she’s gotten work done? She’s looking more like a Lea Michele/Scarlett Johansson hybrid than she used to. Not bad, just a little different .

Teetering on the edge, but I vote IN. She looks good (if somewhat unhappy) from the ankles up. Those shoes are a crime.

  • Christine Campbell

Well, she IS married to Daniel Craig, who is a TOTAL hottie, so by association, she HAS to be in…

Just poking fun at our recent inability to separate our hormones from our fashion sense.  Ok – I think the dress, its bow placement and its fit on her is giving a Gumby effect and those boat shoes are not helping.  Her arms look a million miles long!  Even her hair looks abnormally long and wavy…I see what you mean about the funhouse mirror.   Hmmm….I agree with some previous posters…she doesn’t look her best, but all in all, I don’t think it’s that bad, just off.  I vote IN.

  • Anonymous

Out. The bows-as-cap-sleeves look isn’t working for me. Hate the shoes. Wouldn’t mind the hair if it were just a bit more in the Veronica Lake territory.

  • AWStevens

Seriously thought that was Jessica Biel for a milisecond or Kristen Davis… Ms Weisz and I share the same birthdate. Same year and everything. Separated at birth? You bet your sweet ass! Here, she looks like she’s attending the royal wedding minus the Auntie Mame hat. But minus the Payless shoes, she pulls off the dress. IN.

  • http://twitter.com/rachelruthlee Rachel Lee

Her shoes are awful, and for that she gets an out.

  • Lisa

OUT. Awful shoes, boring dress, way too safe.  This look wouldn’t rate a second glance at an office Christmas party!

    • Anonymous

I have to agree with you.. this is a very “office Christmas party” kind of look, and the shoes… Someone burn all nude shoes immediately and burn any thought of them from the minds of stylists, please.  I am done with this trend, already.

      • Anonymous

I used to hate white shoes with a white-hot passion.  Now that’s changed to the same hate for nude shoes.  Just plain old ugly.

  • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

I can’t be the only person wondering why she is wearing shoes a full size too big

  • Anonymous

Do celebs borrow shoes the way they do dresses?  I can’t imagine why her shoes would be so large if they weren’t borrowed.  The model looks great, very fresh and youthful.  Weisz (I actually started to type Davis since she looks so much like Kristen here) has styled it to look very staid and matronly.  That said, nothing is really terrible, just rather boring, so I guess that’s IN.

  • Anonymous

i say IN, with points off for the shoes which are too big and truly do seem to be made from silly putty.  she could use them to take transfers from the funny papers (any geezers remember that?)  now THAT would make an interesting shoe. i’m not getting the fun house effect at all.  has TLo been to the optometrist lately?  here’s your excuse to get some cute new frames- “sleah said we had to!”

I think she looks amazing. Yes, her face isn’t symmetrical, but who of us is, besides Denzel Washington? The color looks beautiful on her. And although the shoes are too big, at least she doesn’t look pained wearing them. Definitely an IN for me.
