“Harry Potter/Deathly Hallows: Pt 2″ World Premiere

Posted on July 08, 2011

Those adorable little British moppets got themselves all gussied up for their graduation party. Let’s assess how everyone did, shall we?

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint attend the “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ world premiere at Trafalgar Square in London, England.

The theme for the event was “Bad Hair.”

Oh, we’re just teasing. We’ll get to her in a second, but we wanted to do shoutouts to the boys. Rupert’s a bit of a mess, but we like the jacket. Daniel looks adorable; love the vest and the tie bar, but the pants need hemming.

Emma Watson in Oscar de la Renta Fall 2011

Emma Watson in Antonio Berardi Spring 2011

Whatever prior bitching we did about her style rut is currently forgotten. She looks fantastic. We thought she looked great without the jacket but when we saw the pics with her wearing it, we wanted to applaud. Two very different pieces paired in a modern, stylish way. Whoever put this look together knows what they’re doing.

Evanna Lynch in Julien MacDonald Spring 2011

Cute. For once, we’re going to say the complicated shoes were the way to go. The look would have been boring without them.

Mollie King in Julien MacDonald Spring 2011

There is no way we can look at this and not think she got attacked by a wheat thresher somewhere between the limo door and the red carpet. Odd how no one seems to have gotten pictures of the attack.

And white peep-toes, honey? Really?

J.K. Rowling in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2011

A beautiful dress, but you take away the jacket and the proportions look off.

Bonnie Wright in Miu Miu

Satiny, ruffly, colorless. Please leave the red carpet and try again.

Clemence Poesy in Nina Ricci Spring 2011

Cute enough. Could have used a little effort in the hair.

Helena Bonham Carter

BRAVA. True to herself (the hat and purse), while still managing to look elegant and stylish. That is a phenomenal color on her. Love the draping in the bodice.

    “a wheat thresher.” Funny.

I’m not always on the HBC crazy~clothes bandwagon, because a lot of what she wears doesn’t flatter her. But she looks beautiful here, and just eccentric-Aunt-Hels enough.

I agree w/ you guys about Emma’s jacket, but I don’t care for the dress. Maybe it’s the color: gray tulle looks like dingy, faded, formerly-pink or -white tulle.

    • Anonymous

I looked at Emma’s dress and loved the faded, dusty color. I thought it really suited the style of the dress, but I can certainly understand why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. We all see something different, don’t we?

  • Anonymous

She looks a lot more dressed up than the boys. She also looks like the only one of the trio capable of convincingly playing a teenager.
I don’t recognize the other characters, except Bellatrix, and she looks fabu (loove the hat).

  • Anonymous

The boys look awfully rough. Emma’s dress is beautiful, but the hair and face aren’t great. She mostly looks pissed.

    • Anonymous

Probably because she was crying through most of it.  The videos of her are pretty adorable.

  • Anonymous

In order.  Rupert.  Clearly you couldn’t care less, but you listened at least a bit to what they told you.  Emma looks incredible, top to toe. Daniel, get that suit pressed please. Otherwise, Stellar.  Evanna, just, well. no.  Ms Rowling.  Gorgeous dress, but not on you cause the cut at the bodice is wrong for your shape. I get that you’re not a red carpet type. But you should have hired a stylist and listened to them.  Bonnie, did you get that skirt at Ross Dress For Less?  What’s up with all those wrinkles?  Clemence, no quibbles.  And Helena. What can I say?  You still dazzle me and make me smile at the hilarity of it all every time you step out on the carpet.  Love you and LOVE the purse.

ooh, fun. JK’s certainly got on a big, green dress with a matchy purse, doesn’t she? Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood both look lovely and like they are actually having fun. unlike Harry, Hermione and Ron. who look like they aren’t.

Fellas, I love you both but it is flippin’ CRIMINAL that you didn’t feature a pic of Matt Lewis.  He might be a lesser star, but DAMN that boy knows how to wear a suit.

Yes, Neville Longbottom grew up very nicely.

      • Anonymous

Especially considering where he started from at 11 years old…his face went through so many changes — I hardly recognized him from film 3 to 4 to 5…but DAYUM didn’t he turn out well!

        • Jennifer Coleman

I so agree! Most of the kids are just taller mature versions of their childhood selves. He went through a chubby phase, then tall & skinny, then fat face, then ended up trim & handsome!

      So. True.
      Drool. :-)

Thank you for sharing! I am so happy for that kid.

      Ooh, look at him!

Damn, he grew up well… And you’re wright, that suit is gorgeous… he is gorgeous…
      Thanks for the heads up.

      Awr, Neville! :)
He looks just completely fabulous. So happy for him, and thank you for posting this!

I know, who would have thought he’d grow up to be that hot?  He’s like a younger version of Clive Owen.

Good golly, he’s hot. And is wearing the hell out of that suit. Hello, Neville…

Whenever I get slightly irritated at all the men drooling over Emma Watson, I then remember I do the exact same thing with Matt Lewis.  This picture emphasizes that.  Helloooo, Neville.

    • http://profiles.google.com/jenlindsey Jen L.

Right?  I saw his picture yesterday and was floored!  And….he passes the extremely strict TLo hem rule, which just tops it off nicely.

    • Crystal Thomas

Wow. This picture must be included as a lesson to all men, young and old, on how to wear the shit out of a suit.

      • http://twitter.com/kmc1138 Kathleen Coyle

        RIGHT?!!?

    • Anonymous

Om nom nom. And I love the chain and the tie pin. At the risk of sounding like an old lady, he look’s all fetching.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

OMG, I didn’t even recognize the kid!  My, hasn’t he grown up!?  ;)  thanks for posting that, Kathleen!

    • Elaine Lang

      Daaaaaaaaaaaaaayum.

Neville deserves a post of his own.   Matt Lewis grew up just like his character should have…from the awkward little pudgy boy to….Yowza.

    • Anonymous

I so agree. Matt Lewis looked simply smashing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GVCB47I63LWZCWGTXX3KTDIWJ4 Katie Polonius

agreed! “Mollie King” but no Matt Lewis?? …who is Mollie King anyway?

    • Alloy Jane

Thank you for that. I currently don’t care what any of the rest of them are wearing because I just tried watching Part I for the second time and I STILL couldn’t watch the whole thing. So much melodramatic acting, it’s really unforgivable.  But that picture right there just goes to show that Neville Longbottom really is a Badass Motherfucker.

Yes, i heard myself saying “Oooo…”, the moment i saw the picture of miss Watson with the jacket… It’s quite a perfect look.
I also love Clemence Poeicy’s look, hair and all, it’s sic and simple. And if you look at other pictures of her you’ll notice she actually made an efford with the hair, usually it’s much more messy.
Finally, please don’t shoot, but i really like Bonnie Wright from the waist up, i think that peach blouse compliments her very well…from the waist down it looks like Rita Haywards nightgown thow…such a pity.

    • Anonymous

I agree with Bonnie’s dress being a good color on her. But then, there were ruffles and it went downhill from there.

Emma Watson looked like she was having a great time in all the pics I’ve seen, really enjoying it which is nice to see. And she looks great, love the combination.

    Helena looks fantastic too.

To excuse the hair… it look bloody windy on that red carpet.

  • Jessica Rowe

I love Bonnie Wright’s look!  She looks like an ethereal princess!  And I think Emma’s look – well, it’s a bit too much for a red carpet.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

I love it too! I do wish the skirt were in a different fabric, so it wouldn’t be so egregiously wrinkled, but other than that, I love the lines of the whole thing. She looks wonderful!

    • Anonymous

Agreed!!  Bonnie looks beautiful.  The creases in the dress are a bummer (and unavoidable) but other than that the look is very pretty imo.  Love that dress on her.

  • Anonymous

I hardly cared about what they were all wearing (though Emma is kicking ass with her look and mostly everyone else did look really good). I was a bit more concerned with keeping it together as I watched this event.

    • http://twitter.com/kmc1138 Kathleen Coyle

Yeah, I went from constant stages between misty and all out weeping while I watched.  I’ma be a hot mess next week!

You two have me so well trained, my eyes immediately went to the boys’ trouser hems.

    • Anonymous

lol, me too, eversince i discovered you guys, i always look at the hems first!

    • Anonymous

I made my little brother put on the suit and the shoes he intended to wear to prom and then dragged him to have the trousers hemmed. I mentally saluted T&Lo during the process, for everything I’ve learned in this blog. Also, LOL

  • lilibetp

I don’t think I’ve ever seen HBC in a dress that flattered her more than this one.

And I like JK Rowling’s dress, it just isn’t the best cut for someone who isn’t really wasp-waisted, unfortunately.

Emma looks almost perfect – her hair needs a little work and the dress seems a trifle long.

    • Anonymous

Emma’s growing out a pixie cut, as I am too at the moment.  Murderous.  You just have to accept that you will look like crap for 8-12 months.

  • Beth G

    I’ll take a white peep-toe over a nude-pump ANY day.

I FRIGGEN LOVE ME SOME HBC.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_N3GA2TTX752OYSKBWWXQVFM2HI katie

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills every time HBC is featured on this site because for the life of me, I don’t understand why everyone fawns over her so-called style. Everyone else gets tagged for Minnie Mouse shoes, clashing colors, and tacky accessories, but she shows up with all three and somehow she’s fabulous. Yes, this dress probably fits her better than anything she’s ever worn but it’s still not incredibly flattering. Someone explain it to me like I’m a 5 yr old because to me she always just looks like a whole lotta crazy.

    • Anonymous

that’s the beauty of it all- she does always look like a whole lotta crazy, and after a long time in the biz, she’s had the guts to stick to HER style instead of becomming another hollywood robot, while pretty much always being appropriate and put together- just in her very own, unconventional, artsy way.  perhaps a female equivilent of johnny depp?

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

Nicely put.  I was going to say that HBC should be giving red carpet lessons, but I realized that she couldn’t possibly:  she is just always, completely and totally, herself.  The look on her face is her best accessory.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_N3GA2TTX752OYSKBWWXQVFM2HI katie

i like that she sticks to her own style and is sort of flipping off all the people who try so hard by showing up and looking like she doesn’t give a rip. however, she always looks the same to me. a variation of the same disheveled outfit over and over again. how many versions of bedraggled can one person do before it gets old? to me, its just gone over the line from bravado to generic crazy at this point. obviously its just me though. we all have our preferences!

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

I feel that HBC is very quirky and always thumbing her nose at the fashionistas.

Johnny Depp, on the other hand, seems to have adopted his style to keep from being thought of as too pretty. He seems to deliberately make himself unattractive. Actors like Tyrone Power and John Derek
        suffered for being too beautiful.

also, my girl crush on ms watson rages on.  she’s dreamy.

  • Anonymous

I love HBC.  She wears what she wants b/c she likes and she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, and it’s not a gimmick.  It’s who she is.  Unlike Gaga and Ke$ha, who always seem like they spent weeks in the craft store and card/party store trying to find the perfect wig and stickers and bird feathers.

I could never say anything bad about JK.

Emma, once again, looks stunning. I would wrestle someone for that jacket.

The boys look nice. I find Rupert’s clueless-ness and tousled-ness a bit charming.

I think Bonnie looks cute, if only the skirt weren’t satin. But then again, I adore Ginny.

  • Anonymous

Emma’s dress is beautiful, but that grey tulle reminds me of when a PR contestant used it and the judges slammed it, saying that it looked dirty. I wonder if they would look Oscar straight in the eye and tell him that. Hmpf.

I’m not usually a fan of how Helena BC dresses, but this look is great. The color is great, the fit is flattering, love the hat, makeup, hair, even love the bag with this look. It’s just eccentric enough, but she looks pretty instead of insane.

    • Julie Woodson

The tulle bits are the colors you find in a dust bunny

  • Anonymous

Oh, MOLLIE!!  That is just sad.  But, I can’t help but think the dress was scaled back from the runway version.  On the runway, the skirt thing has more volume and fabric.  Or maybe it just got twisted and fell flat on Mollie, either way, not good.  And that skinny belt was a bad idea.
I love the fabric on Ms. Rowlings dress but you are so right, without the jacket it gets really, really blocky and dumpy.
I’m sorry, both boys look awful.  Emma should live the the rest of her life in that Oscar peice of perfection.

emma just schooled all of young hollywood!

  • Anonymous

Well, obviously I don’t know anything about style but I thought the jacket with Emma’s dress was odd–to me it didn’t look so much styled as  uh oh, a chilly breeze came up and I need a cover up. Not that it’s a bad jacket on its own or with its companion dress on the runway.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, that was my impression of the jacket, too–like she got a chill and borrowed it from someone who was wearing an entirely different outfit.

  • Anonymous

Was Mollie King just in attendance, or was she doing something particular there?

Emma: Pretty dress, but the poor thing is obviously at the awkward stage of growing out her hair.  Not her fault.
    Rupert: Looks comfortable, at least
Dan: is planning to make a big announcement that he’s going to quit acting and take up a job as a bank president, at which point his children’s magical nanny will come in and sing him songs about feeding birds instead of saving tuppence a day
Evanna: Pretty in a generic way
JKR: Meh.  I’m not all that nuts about the dress.  But she’s Jo Rowling.  As long as her brain is all dressed up, I’m happy.
Bonnie: Not your dress.  Not anyone’s dress.
Clemence: The dress looks too big.  I’m sure it’s not, but all the ruffles combined with totally flat hair and her skinny limbs make it look like it’s gigantic.  I think this one would have looked good on Bonnie Wright, who’s big enough to pull it off.
HBC: Playing the craziest character going, but oddly, one of her less crazy looks.  Pretty, though, and I agree about the color on her.  And I love the hat!

Edit: The pose in the first one looks weirdly like one of the chapter-head illustrations in the American version.

There must be some hard water coming out of low flow shower heads in England because there are some serious hair situations going on.

Also, Luna is so so pretty. Love Emma’s dress, but the jacket really makes it.

  • Lauen newman

My eternal cries. The last premiere.
I hate Emma’s hair. But her dress is okay. It looks a bit too poofy to me. Dan looks great, Rupert’s coat is awesome. Bonnie makes me cringe, it was wrinkly. Evanna’s is basic. Or boring. Clemence’s was a bit boring, too.
Helena rocks and I love her.

  • MilaXX

As much as I hare mullet dresses, I don’t think anybody looked really bad this time around. A few flat hairdo’s may be the worse crime I saw. Emma could have used a bit more lipstick. Love HBC as usual.

it makes me happy you guys love HBC as much as I do…so many fashion writers shit on her for her quirky style, and not fitting into the female celebrity glamour mold of cocktail dresses and blown out hair. I adore her for wearing what she wants and not giving a fuck. Stylist? she don’t need no stinkin’ stylist.

Let me say it again: Green and pink rarely work (only my Barbie dog walking outfit from the 1960s made green and pink happen). And in this case the combination looks like wallpaper in the country club powder room. JKR has the money to hire a better stylist.

I don’t like the skirt color on Emma’s dress.  It just looks dirty and dingy.

exsqueeze me pink is a color.  I understand the reasoning in theory, but look at her- Bonnie Wright looks FANTASTIC and you can’t say she is colorless when Emma Watson is head to toe in beige and several people are just wearing white.  I think Bonnie looks super hot.

This is kind of impressive: how did they all manage to get an ‘almost’?
I love Rupert’s jacket, but the rest of the suit is a ‘not’, and somehow the proportions look very off, the fabric cheap (sorry), and the fit is downright bad.I adore Daniel’s suit, but I cannot overlook the very very urgent need of ironing.Emma looks absolutely amazing, and I specially love the dress paired with the jacket because it’s so different and kind of urban chic. But she overdressed and there is no way around it.Evanna looks very cute too, but she is under dressed.Molly looks pretty, and that dress would have been the perfect way too go, but the proportions look weird. The top’s cut is not right to make a deep neckline, and it looks as if the straps are too just long. The skirt is too short, and it seems like a piece of the hem got caught somewhere and the fabric got ripped. Now she’s walking around with half a skirt and the rest of the fabric hanging away. No comment on the shoes.Rowling’s dress  is pretty and perfectly appropriate, but I agree that the proportions are off, it looks bulky, and needs hemming.Bonnie: No. Bad top and in urgent need of ironing.Clemency passes, but hair and makeup are lacking, and there are no accessories. It would have made the differenceAnd Elena Bonham must be judged on a different scale, which means the bag and the thing on her hair pass (tough the the last could have been a leeeehtle bit smaller, just to make sure that it won’t have a chance if it decides to stage a rebellion to take over her head). The color is nice on her, the hair… is very Elena Bonham, and I like the makeup. But the accessories are kind of lacking and her breasts look saggy and sad. Maybe they regret this being the last movie.

I think Bonnie Wright looks adorable in her dress.  It’s a bit creased, which is a shame, but the silhouette is lovely and it’s not over-frilly.

Dang, I never think of “wheat threshers” when casting about for unseen engines of destruction. Very agricultural of you fellas.

The jacket not only upgrades the dress from nice to LOVE, it sets off her hair beautifully.

Mr. Radcliffe reminds me too much here of a friend of my daughter’s who is someday going to be a wonderful person but at this point in time is the annoying personification of “trying too hard at all times in all arenas I’m worried that boy is going to become a closet alcoholic.”

Glad the appropriate talent rustler or PA was able to find Mr. Grint in time for the photos. He looks a little uninvested in the proceedings.

Ms. Lynch is best of the rest.

It is not really a satisfying running of the Potter-franchise actors for me without Alan Rickman.

Yum! That jacket (that Emma’s wearing) with that dress! Win! :D

I have a hard time with evening wear in broad daylight — whether it is in London or Hollywood.  There are lot of appropriately special daytime looks.

I think Emma looks fantastic. HBC looks less crazy than usual, but she looks pretty good. Look at that face, so pretty. None of the other ladies are even worth a mention. Horrible! However, I’m feeling very sympathetic toward JKR. I know she’s no fashionista, but I’m not sure her dress could be any less flattering. It’s too bad because her hair and makeup look very pretty.

Aw. I love Bonnie’s look here. She’s such a gentle beauty. But, you gotta include a photo of the best accessory she wore on the red carpet — her fiance Jamie Campbell Bower (plays young Gellert Grindewald in these last two flicks. Plus something or other in Burton’s Sweeney Todd & in Twilight & other stuff.)

    Evanna’s such a doll.

Rupert’s jacket is fun closeup. Sort of crocodile skin pattern. Emma’s cool, but really don’t like that dishwater color. Dashing Dan.

HBC. Love her lovely hat! So funny that she didn’t go full on Bellatrix here.

Poor Jo Rowling loves designer stuff (shoes, especially) but, man. She never looks quite right on the red carpet. I love her, though.

Bone-pickin’ with you, TLo dears: No Matt Lewis or Tom Felton? Alan Rickman? Ralph “so fine” Fienes?

(I’m such a saddo! Big fan of the books, but decided to wait and see all the movies together once the last came out. I know what box set I’m askin’ Santa for this year! And, yet… still I’ve followed all the premieres, interviews etc. I like the people involved with these flicks!)

Given Rupert’s usual red-carpet fare, he looks really formal here, and aside from the hair, quite nice.  You should expand the post to include Jason Isaacs. OMFG he’s aged well.

HBC showing the kids how is done. I love how she’s working her personal style

I associate Oscar de la Renta with aging society matrons like Betsy Bloomingdale and Emma and Jo’s dresses did nothing to change that association–Jo’s is particularly hideous!

I hope you’ll do a second post because leaving out Alan Rickman and Matthew Lewis is a crime!

awww it’s a shame the pic of bonnie wright is so weak here. i spotted another angle elsewhere & she looked pretty fabulous. the dress is a pale pink & it really worked on her.

meh bad lighting can break anything  :/

and i totally agree on emma watson – she looks outstanding here!

HBC, I love how you are always true to yourself. Don’t ever change. And Matt Lewis?? Rowr, I’m all cougary now!!

the first three really do look marvellous. oh, for heavens sake, my hair has often looked way worse than any of theirs, than all of theirs combined. it probably does now. lets blame it on the wind, at least for them.

& of course helena bonham carter. but jk rowling looks like she’s wearing a sofa cupcake. the little stargirls in their little white- & door-caught dresses are interchangeable w/ so many other stargirls in their white- {or door-caught} dresses, other than yr pair of notable shoes. & if the internet has taught me a single lesson it’s never wear satin if yr gonna sit before you stand. other than that, whoever else was there is not memorable even from the time i saw them to this. then again, there may be nobody else.

How did you miss Matt Lewis????

  • Grace Ritt

I thought this red carpet was amazing! Not necessarily that everyone dressed amazingly, just that it was so fun to look at. Did you see what Jessie Cave wore? Oh goodness, it was crazy. Helena wouldn’t have even gone near it.

Also, why did you not talk about how perfect Matthew Lewis looked? For shame!

HBC looks AMAZING. Wow. Love the whole look :-D

JK Rowling, did you ever think you’d be wearing Oscar de la Renta when you first started scrawling on the back of a napkin? And if so, WHY would you pick this tickety-tack sleeping bag? Eugh!

….and what is Mollie King doing here? She has nothing to do with Harry Potter ANYTHING.

  • Lisa

Emma and HBC look wonderful!  And the guys don’t look so bad – a little rumpled but they both pulled it off.

HBC is so awesome! You look at everything separately and minus the purse, they all seem quite elegant. And then you put it all together on her, and she turns it into something quirky.

The bottom half of Emma’s dress is a little too Miss Havisham for me.  But somehow, with the stark white jacket, all that vibe disappears.  Very nice styling!  I think Daniel looks just adorable.  Rupert: not so much.  HBC is amazing, I think you should keep an eye on her for a future “WERQ” entry.  She just projects attitude no matter what she wears, and manages to pull off the most seemingly random look.

How old is HBC?  Because he skin is flawless.

One gratis shot? I’ll take a dozen. Love him also.

To be fair, I’m pretty sure Rupert’s awful haircut is for a role.

  • sonictofu

    Emma KILLED it.

I think Hermione’s dress is a bit too much for a film premier but she is working it. Tho my love goes to Miss Helena Bonham Carter. WERQ mama!

I guess it was Ginnys turn to wear the harribul antique Weasley robe?

  • lucasuk82

I wasn’t fond of EW’s dress until I saw it with jacket – suddenly it was glam walk of shame.  I know that sounds like a dig, but I love it.
