Cover Boy: Daniel Craig for Esquire

Posted on July 07, 2011

Bite-sized sex morsel Daniel Craig gets the (admittedly, pretty cool-looking) cover treatment at Esquire because he’s got those Cowboys & Aliens and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo flicks to flog.

Daniel Craig covers the August 2011 issue of Esquire magazine photographed by Nigel Parry.

It’s the usual actor sound bites, with bravado and liberal sprinking of the f-notes throughout to compensate for the fact that he wears makeup every working day of his life:

On The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: “It’s as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we f*cking all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he’s not holding back. They’ve given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, Are you f*cking serious?”

On constantly being associated with James Bond: “This has become my way, it’s as simple as that. I mean, since I’ve just become James Bond. And I think, you know, that means being something that people feel they own. And all of the sudden I’m getting magazine covers, when I got nothing for ten years before that. I say it’s just pure luck. And doing covers, people interviewing me, and they want to know everything and I’m going, I’m not gonna f—ing tell you!”

That’s all well and good, dear; and if you want to continue ranting, be our guest, but can we sit on the floor next to you, cradling our scotch and carefully cuffing and recuffing our jeans? Just for a little while?

I enjoy me some Daniel Craig, but I always picture him as he looked in the various Masterpiece Theatre movies I’ve seen him in…usually riding a horse whilst wearing tight breeches and a long curly wig.

    gorgeous

    I love the cover.

This is the kind of man I like … you take his features apart, and they’re really quite ordinary.  Put them all together just so, with that amazing body, and YUM.  Lucky Whatsername.

    • Anonymous

You summed up his looks perfectly. And yes, YUM.

He’s gorgeous and all, but I don’t think these photos reflect that nearly as well as others I’ve seen. Then again, this is a men’s magazine.

This cover is so creative. Good job folks @ Esq.

  • All For You Sophia

    He is bloody gorgeous!

And yet I constantly associate him with Andy Cohen.

In related news, now that gay marriage is legal in NY, I’ve been trying to use The Secret to make the universe convince Daniel Craig to marry me. Results are pending.

The man can fill a pair of jeans.

  • Oze R.

Damn he’s hot! I saw him AND Hugh Jackman coming out of the theater a couple of years ago (by sheer coincidence, no less), and I was amazed they are even hotter in person than in photos and movies.

    • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

I would’ve fainted from the collective hotness radiating off those two. Yikes!

I cannot wait for Dragon Tattoo .. search out the trailer … fast moving w/ Led Zeppelin music… and Daniel Craig of course.

*sigh*  What I’ve always found most appealing about Mr. Craig is that he looks like he’s harboring an explosion of heat beneath that immaculately polished exterior.  This is how every bad-boy brooding type should grow up.  Rawr!!

  • http://profiles.google.com/angelarosesarno angela rose sarno

Yowza- pay attention David Arquette- THIS is how a MAN should dress.

    am hyperventilating….

  • Basil Von Broccoli

Daniel Craig is all well and good, but DAMN do I love that cover design.

  • Julie Woodson

He’s craggy like Michael Norqvist, his Swedish counterpart. Love them both in cold-weather casual clothing. Oh, yum.

Daniel Craig, enh….but I really the dig the cover concept…

I cannot look at him in any sort of romantic way.  He looks way too much like my dad.

    • http://profiles.google.com/thisiscelia Celia

      Wow, is your dad single?

Have you considered therapy for that?

    WOOF!!!

    • Anonymous

I’m with Jennifer. The man is homely to my eyes, and I’ve never understood all the salivating over him. He has a bad case of potato face if you ask me.

      • http://twitter.com/aStudiobytheSea Jody Lee

Yup, Mr. Potato Head.  And he has a flat, uninteresting voice, which is unusual for an english actor.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=502834383 Jennifer Marie Wegmann-Gabb

Dude, to each his or her own…. if we all liked the same things it would be a boring boring world.

    He’s my favorite blonde.

The Swedish Dragon Tattoo is a flippin’ fantastic movie.. so I can only imagine how this *NEW* version is.  Everyone do yourselves a favor, read the book, it is amazing–even though the names remind me of an Ikea catalog.       Love the Esquire cover, bold, brashy and attention getting.

    • http://profiles.google.com/paigemano Paige Mano

Gotta disagree with you on the books, based on the fact that it practically *is* an IKEA catalog, the way the author overly-describes *everything*.  The movies are great, though, probably  because there is a good story underneath all the coffee-drinking and sandwich-eating.

      • Anonymous

Haha! All the coffee-drinking was so distracting I started trying to guess when someone would make coffee, who would offer whom coffee, etc., instead of paying attention to the story line.

Fantastic cover, and I am positively giddy in anticipation of “Cowboys and Aliens”.

Associated with James Bond? No! I associate him with the evil Russian vying to ELIMINATE Bond! He does not look English at all. He looks so Russian, no? How did he get cast for a role like James Bond?

    • Anonymous

Well… he is British for one

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_35OW6VJZLWTQDQHS4JLRTVC2JA Akumabunny

Yes!  I’ve always thought that he had a very Russian/Slav face! He’s always reminded me a bit of Mikhail Baryshnikov- though not quite as hot.

  • Anonymous

That’s an amaizing cover, but doesn’t he look a little drunk in the picture?

  • Anonymous

    Fabulous actor/fabulous cover!

  • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Why do male celebrities feel the need to use so much profanity in modern interviews? I am no prude, but even in Esquire, can’t we get a well-spoken individual who expresses himself without resorting to an f-bomb every other word?

  • Tamara Hogan

It’s so refreshing to see an actor over 40 who hasn’t capitulated to Botox. He wears his experience well.

    • Julie Woodson

      I love it, too.

That man is some serious sex on a stick.

  • http://twitter.com/pag_baj Paige Boerman

I don’t like him. He seems like a jerk to me, and I don’t like him as Bond. Having said that – he looks good here, and that’s a cool cover.

The only blonde man I have ever been attracted to. Oh Daniel

  • Anonymous

I like the cover shot and can I say he fills out a pair of jeans like nobody’s business. Oh, yeah.

mmmmmmm…….  Harrison Ford & Daniel Craig in the same movie?!  I better bring a seat cover.

Glad that cover comes off as cool because, as someone who has worked in the industry, I can tell you it’s one lazy-ass piece of work that someone turned out at the last minute.

Love Daniel Craig, but I’m sorry. As soon as I laid eyes on the cover my mind immediately flashbacked to Bill Murray making Scotch commercials in Lost In Translation. Now it just looks like a Scotch ad and dammit, Bill Murray just ruined Daniel Craig for me forever!

    I like that cover design

  • vmcdanie

I was flipping through my cable channels late one night a few weeks ago and stumbled across an old Ken Russell flick (The Devils I think?) where Oliver Reed wrestles naked with another man. The scene doesn’t make much sense-cause it’s Ken Russell-but I thought, “Man no one fucking goes for it in movies like this anymore.”

So I get what Daniel Craig is saying. Also, whenever I look at this page I want to stick my monitor down my pants.

Great cover, dishy cover boy but why haven’t you done a post on the fantastic photo of Helen Mirren on the interior?  http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/nX/esq-helen-mirren-0811-lg.jpg

    Love the shoes.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

The cover is really cool, I love the scribbled words, it looks like they’ve been scribbled directly onto the wall. It’s also a lot like that one scene in Sherlock Holmes, when RDJ is sitting with these scribbles on the wall behind him, looking like they’re emanating from his head.

However, I don’t find Daniel Craig sexy. Sorry :(
