Bill and Cathy’s Canadian Vacation, Day 6

Posted on July 06, 2011

STOP! Cambridge Time!

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visit the Somba K’e Civic Plaza in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Catherine is wearing a By Malene Birger dress paired with her favorite L.K. Bennett shoes.

By Malene Birger Bullet Dress

From the “Fraulein Maria” collection at Harrods.

If she stood on a beach, she’d look like a floating head and hands.

We can’t with this one.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge arrives to board a Seaplane bound for Blachford Lake at the Old Town Float Base in Yellowknife, Canada. Catherine is wearing a Burberry top, J Brand skinny pants and Sebago loafers.

Sebago Loafers

Okay, that’s kind of super-cute. If we were the Royal Gays, we would have insisted on a killer pair of shades for this look. We also would have gently tried to coax her into something with a higher waist because she has such a long torso and slim hips, but we’d bet that’s an argument we’d lose with her. Best not to risk a beheading by implying to the future queen of England that she has boyhips.

How utterly unsurprising that, even dressed down, she can only manage blue and beige.

More beige. And she is way too thin.

someone.  please feed her a burger.

Feed her two burgers, chips and a large chocolate frappe!

Don’t forget the cheese….lots & lots of cheese.

she does look very “lollipop” like.. but she’s not anorexic thin… she has a really narrow frame.. so when she’s that thin she looks frekin weird … agree she looked wayy better when she was a bit bigger

Guys, are you not commenting? Or is the XXXXX above a placeholder for copy TK?

He would be better suited with wider lapels, a more surpressed waist and a lower button stance, like a two button instead of his usual 3-roll-2

    • Annie Leung

Those pants do nothing but accentuate how thin she is (has become? *shrug*) but it’s nice to see her in a more casual look – I love the belt. I do wish she would try more color though.

    • Anonymous

The sheer monochromatism has struck TLo mute.

      • Anonymous

That’s exactly what I thought–they’re so bored they have nothing to say!

    • Anonymous

What, no TLo comment?  We have to make do with kisses only?

I think she’s a tad monochromatic, although it’s a nice dress.  Rather businesslike.  As usual, it is perfectly tailored for her.  But wouldn’t a nice pair of navy heels, or a dark brown clutch, have spiced things up?  The shadows on the photo keep me from seeing if his suit trousers are actually any better fitted today, although they seem to be.

It’s refreshing to see her dressed down in jeans & loafers, but in her current body state it’s really not flattering.

      • Anonymous

Completely agree. Even the Queen wears color!

    • Anonymous

And jeans usually make people look heavier!  Yikes!!!

      • Anonymous

My thighs were bigger than this at birth.

    • Anonymous

I’ve been dieing to see her in a very casual outfit…just to see what she’d do.  I now take that wish back. Skinny jeans are not her friend. (I can’t imagine how flat she looks in them from behind…and honestly don’t want to see it either!) Stick to the boring dresses Cathy.

And Billy…way to spruce up that same old suit with a new tie…uhm…not.

    • Lisa Bongiorno

Yellowknife! There’s a rock and a bush…now there is a princess….greatest place in all of Canada

Maybe this trip was labeled “Cream Cooperation Canadiens” in her itinerary and thus everything was color coordinated accordingly.

Crossing fingers that their trip to California is called “Crimson California Coverage” or “Electric Pacific Blue Liason”

I live in San Francisco, and I couldn’t agree more with you. GOD how I hope she and Bill turn it up several notches when they get to California.

When in California Cathy Cambridge really needs to stop by Rachel Zoe’s showroom and get some pizazz ASAP!

          • Anonymous

            TOTALLY!!!!!!
Or she and Bill could stop up to my place for a spot of tea and some sage counsel about subjects sartorial.
            (jus’ sayin’)

Oh GOD, NOOOO!!!  Keep that cray cray “mix it up and call it cool” gal.  I don’t think the Duchess needs any help at all, she’s got a signature look, classic and clean.  I say, you go girl!!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7C56L6DLPADQOLHV3I6PLZYQR4 Isabeau Mochrie

NO!!!  I can’t stand the idea of Rachel Zoe dressing the new Duchess and running around chatting “She wants to have a royal moment.”

            • Anonymous

I hear ya.The very idea of that awful woman getting anywhere near Kate is horrifying.

    • Anonymous

Argh–I have always hated dresses/clothes in an oatmeal color (with an oatmeal texture), and this one is no exception. Bleh.

Please, someone release the royal toes!  I’d love to see a pair of strappy sandals on the girl!

And she needs more color!  Everywhere!

Still the most glorious hair ever, tho.

I love the dressed down look.  The dressed up?  Not so much.

Now I’m starting to get annoyed with Bill and his blue suits.   So much so I’m wondering if he is wearing the same suit over and over again or if they are all different.  Dear God how many navy blue 3 button suits can one man own?

      • Anonymous

I am SO on board with you about Bill and his Insurance salesman look.  Hasn’t he ever bothered to even look at the mountains of fabrics at the doubtlessly bespoke tailors on Saville Row that he patronizes?  At this point if he showed up in a chalk stripe suit I think I would faint from the shock and awe.

        • scottyf

Well, as I mentioned in a previous post, there was this outfit. But the Duchess convinced him to save it for a more formal occasion.

          • Anonymous

And wouldn’t I just LOVE it if he did wear it.  Where did you find that awesome photoshop job, or is that your own inspired work.  You made my morning!

            • scottyf

lol, that’s mine. Slow day at work yesterday.

I smiled all day long at my work occasionally thinking of that red zoot suit on Bill.  Thanks so much.  You’re obviously a smart and quite talented man.

I would take that over this crap he wears day after day.

What is going on here?  Have they suddenly been dubbed the Duke and Duchess of Blandania?   Cummon Kidz, you are filthy rich, extremely good looking and famous.  Would you please work the part of the crowd that is UNDER 75?  And as everyone has been saying to you Cathy; you need to eat some Bubble and Squeak and a big old pile of Raspberry Fool for dessert, right now.

    • Mariah J

The second outfit is insanely cute. And to those saying she’s too thin, it’s called being tall. Don’t be jealous.

    • aussiegal77

Give this woman some colours, please!  P.S. You were destined to be the Royal Gays.  The royal houses of Europe would never be the same again.  Make it happen TLo!!!  Also….does Kate eat?  She’s practically a twig.

      • Anonymous

She definitely needs some color. Those oatmealy-beige tones make her peely wally.

    • Barbara Bundy

Has he been wearing the same suit every day for two weeks? Is he getting it cleaned? I appreciate the attempt to save British taxpayer dollars, but perhaps they could have flown coach and used the savings on another suit or two.

As for her, the dress would be boring for an intern at a business consultancy, and the casual outfit makes her look like one of those toys where you can match the wrong head, upper body, and lower body.

Maybe they’re just getting tired. Poor kids, they seem nice enough.

    • Anonymous

really shows how thin she is when she’s in jeans. Her shirt needs to untuck just slightly, its straining. Looks like she didn’t adjust herself in a mirror.

    • Anonymous

I like the style of the first dress, because it makes her look as if she has some curves, and snaps for finally wearing pumps with a bit of a platform, rather than her usual basic pump. Only thing missing is some color. Come on, Duchess, color won’t bite you.

You guys are right about the jeans, but my guess is that accentuating her boyhips was the idea here. People who are obsessed with being too thin like to show off how thin they are. They don’t really see what the rest of us see.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

I’m assuming you don’t know her, so I think it’s a BIT of a stretch to pronounce that she is a person who is “obsessed with being too thin.”  The most all of us can say about her is that she is, indeed, thin.  A lot of people are.  Not as many as used to be 50 years ago, but still.   I think she looks super cute in her jeans (and no, I’m not nearly as thin as she is), with boy hips and all.  Plus, this is the 2nd time in the last couple of days that I’ve seen someone wearing boat shoes.  Are those back in now?  ‘Cause I loved wearing mine back in high school, with my short jeans and boy hips, and I’m primed and ready to purchase another pair.

      • Anonymous

Those are the same nude pumps she’s been wearing since they got married; every photo you see of her wearing nude pumps, it’s this pair.  Go back and check for yourself.

She truly is remarkably slim, but it’s simply not an unhealthy thin (although I sure hope her pelvis loosens up a bit or she’s going to be delivering the heir and the spare by Royal Caesarian).  You can tell that she is just super-athletic and toned; her legs are well-muscled, and she’s been playing endurance sports all her life.  It looked like she didn’t even break a sweat rowing in the dragon boat race in PEI, which says a lot about how fit she is.  So while I agree that her hips are really slim, I think she also looks fantastic.

        • Anonymous

Oh, I think she looks fantastic too. She’s a beautiful girl, no doubt. I’ve been a gushing fangirl admiring her sense of style ever since they announced the engagement and pictures of her started appearing everywhere.
I’ll take your word for it on the shoes. I guess I hadn’t noticed them before; I’ve been too busy hating on those sensible pumps that she wears all the time.

    • Anonymous

i swear, she’s changed her style drastically since becoming ‘royalty.’  it’s such a shame- there was NOTHING inappropriate about how she dressed before, there’s no need for her to start dressing dull and matronly.

      • Anonymous

But she probably gets mountains of “advice” from Betty, and its tough to completely ignore your mother in law when she is A: the Queen of England and B: the richest woman on Earth.

        • Anonymous

Hasn’t Oprah passed the Queen yet?  Bigger empire, these days ….

          • Anonymous

I think her Royal Nibs is still first place in more “money than anyone sweepstakes”.

      • Lauen newman

I agree, she used to wear such cute things. You know, patterns. And there was that pink gown, and though I thought the shiny was tacky, at least it had color. I am thinking she only dresses in neutrals for royal events, though. There was this monstrosity after Prince Phillip’s 90th: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/06/14/article-2003285-0C88236100000578-936_306x555.jpg

        • Anonymous

So, don’t you think that she’s made just enough missteps to be a little gun-shy? Why go overboard with the bright, tight and shiny when you get blasted for it? Stick to the basics, stick to the classics. Better to be called boring than vulgar. Be boring long enough and people will stop caring (see: Princess Anne).

      • Anonymous

My guess is that she’s deliberately dressing boring and bland so as not to detract from William.  Same reason she’s not giving any speeches on this tour.  She’s not going to ever follow in Diana’s foosteps and take all the attention away from her husband — although I must say William is a darned sight easier to look at than Charles, which doesn’t hurt.  I suspect she’ll keep a fairly low profile for some time, possibly permanently.  But she made it plain before this trip, apparently, that she was going to keep a fairly low profile, and I suspect the clothes are a deliberate attempt to prove that point.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

All the beige is making my head spin. This makes her fallback color – royal blue – look adventurous and fresh by comparison.

Also: I loved her hair pulled back. She she should really do it more often; she has beautiful hair and I understand why she’d flaunt it, but she’s such a predictable dresser that the changes in hair really helped boost the outfits.

    • Joyce VG

They both look wonderful.  This whole trip has been fantastic!  She has a lot of people to answer to.  I think it’s smart that she’s kept her attire smart.

    • MilaXX

I know she is the Queen of neutral, but I really wish she had gone for a crisp, white shirt instead of this boring beige. Once again her tiny size saves her from being a fashion don’t but it’s yet another boring outfit. I hope she figures out that she can be cute without being dull.

    • Zi Jie Tan

my mind screamed “wear some fushcia, for the love of god!!” when I saw her beige dress again. c’mon, listen to TLo, Princess.

    • Anonymous

“How utterly unsurprising that, even dressed down, she can only manage blue and beige.”

It makes me appreciate the adventurousness of our American style icon, Michelle Obama, that much more.

      • Anonymous

        LOL at “American Style Icon”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/trashilove { edi } ilovetrash

she’s pretty but not interesting & built so very slightly that everything she wears is gonna look really good on her. but she always looks like the richest girl in the office –thats why whatever she wears takes off so well. she looks like a rich girl, but also a nice girl, so i guess thats okay.

      • Anonymous

        Exactly.

    • Lauen newman

Guys, there have been plenty of pictures of her eating recently. She was eating tons at the ARK charity event. She just is very active, she has a high metabolism along with the rest of her family, and is under a bit of stress right now.

    • Kate Gorton

She sure does love those nude pumps & that nude clutch. How ’bout some OTHER neutrals, Cathy? And the Fraulein Maria dress looks better on than off, I’d say.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1077090078 Megan Sullivan

I like the shoulders on the first dress.

    • http://twitter.com/annmartina Ann Harste

It’s almost like she packed like a regular girl going on a trip.  Trying to make as many pieces crossmatch so she wouldn’t have to pack so much.  I think she’s still finding her way.

      • http://twitter.com/CheriCPat Cheri Patrick

Exactly!  She packed everything in Navy, beige and white.  She can bring less shoes and bags that way, and mix and match so she can make more outfits with less.  She could have packed a scarf or belt or something for color, for sure, but maybe she was trying to minimize the fees for extra bags?

    • lilibetp

They’re not supposed to wear sunglasses when they’re “on duty.”  One of the reasons they continue to wear huge hats.

    • suzq

Either wear those slim pants with boots or wear a slightly wider leg.

Unless the 80′s are coming back!  Oh my!

    • Anonymous

Another way to go would be to have a shorter hem on the blouse, so it’s not tucked in.  However, I’m certain royal midriff would be a major no-no.  Either way, I’m glad to see she’s allowed to be casual.

    • Ella B. Mudge

I seem to recall that Jemima Khan caused a bit of a kerfuffle around the time of the engagement because she said that Kate didn’t have baby-bearing hips, or something to that effect.  Of course she retracted it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, she put it on Twitter.  While she may have been the only one stupid enough to put it on record, I guarantee she wasn’t the first to say it — plenty of jealous, bitter women used that particular snipe as one reason he’d never marry the commoner, I’m sure.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

As a woman with the exact opposite of boyhips, I suspect Kate knows she has no hips and plays it up on purpose because she likes that about her body.  No one who dresses their body as flatteringly as she generally does and sees as many photos of themselves as she does is somehow just not going to know that they have no hip.  She’s probably also well aware of the fact that millions of women like me would love to have those narrow hips. So she plays them up.

Not to mention the rather unflattering and incredibly tacky comments that have been made regarding her hips and her suitability as a brood mare while they were dating and engaged.  If I were her, I’d make sure my hips looked as thin as possible just to drive those catty women up a wall.

The beige doesn’t bother me.  It’s safe, for a woman who is very new to her position and terrified of missteps, especially with the ghost of her mother-in-law hovering behind her as a reminder of just how much can go wrong.

      • Anonymous

I’d have ‘liked’ this one several times if possible!

      • Jessica Goldstein

Thank you, Shannon. Also, as one possessed of boy hips myself (my hip size often cannot be found on size charts at all; they can be accommodated by girls’ pants easily), let me add two thoughts to this: (1) My hips produced a baby just fine, despite all the dire predictions to the contrary from mean girls in high school; (2) The skinny jeans actually add bulk and curve to a boyish figure. The mistake, I think, was the narrow tucked in shirt which emphasized the length of her torso. Layers, a shirt worn out, or a jacket would have fixed this. If you put boy hips in too loose a pant, you risk looking like an anorexic waif.

      • Anonymous

So true.  It’s not the size of the hips that determine whether you can bear children easily — I had very slim hips when I had my kids, and I had under-4-hour labors and natural deliveries with both of them — but whether the pelvic ligaments loosen in the hips to allow the baby through.  And hip size is no indication whatsoever of that.  I love her slimness.  I just hope that as she ages, she allows herself to gain a bit more weight rather than starve herself to maintain this size; if it’s natural it looks great, but if it’s achieved by over-dieting, then it ends up looking pretty awful.  She could easily go up 2-3 dress sizes and still be very slim, anyway!

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

I’m in the she’s-too-thin camp. In dresses she is thin in an attractive way–as someone said, it gives her curves. But the casual outfit is designed in every way to emphasize her leanness, and in those photos she looks a bit scary. I hope that in fact her shape is the result of genetics plus a super metabolism, but it seems to me that just as a curvy gal should avoid horizontal stripes, she should reach for them.

    • Anonymous

I really wonder (and would love to know) if direct pressure was put on Cathy to “play it down” becaused her deceased mother-in-law always “played it up” to the hilt when it came to fashion

      • Anonymous

I think she’s smart enough nobody needed to tell her that; it’s not like it would be hard to notice Diana’s mistakes and learn from them without needing to be told!

    • Anonymous

I like the beige dress, and I even like it with the nude shoes, but it looks a little heavy for the weather.  Put your hair up, Cathy, you’ll feel a lot better.

      • kdevale

Maybe she is using how she carries her purse as a signal like the Queen does?

    • Anonymous

Love her in the jeans!!! William needed the shades, though–squinting is never a good thing. Actually I liked the dress fabric (though I agree it looks a little heavy) and I thought we had agreed that she is carrying a limited palette to save the royal treasury.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

I love her, but in the words of Willow, “Bored now!”  Come on, you wore purple last week, you can do it!  Show a little verve!  I think she is trying to keep a low profile, lest she be seen as flightly or frivolous.  Still, no need to be frumpy about it.

    • Liana Brooks

I bet when she’s done with the photo tour she’ll grab herself a real meal, and some colored clothes. I think this is a reflection of the Buckingham PR style, and not her own choice in clothes.

But, Kitty, really, eat something! Come over, we’re grilling tonight.

    • http://www.facebook.com/WendyLKaufman Wendy Kaufman

The Maria dress is okay, but the shoulders are far too severe for her thin frame. I SO agree with the higher rise jeans. The shirt is so taught and forced into the top of the jeans, it makes her look emaciated. Oy!

    • http://www.facebook.com/WendyLKaufman Wendy Kaufman

Ya know, reading the comments here, I wonder if the royal couple are simply adhering to a set of guidelines that were set for them so they stay within the bounds of royal conservatism. Diana raised eyebrows with her lace-backed dress back in the day. Has Catherine toned it down from her pre-royal days? Anyone know?

    • Anonymous

The only thing I see here is a woman who consistently knows how to wear classic clothes that look great on her (beige shirt excepted).  You all seem to want her to be a runway model.  She’s essentially a government employee representing the country of Britain.  They have protocols.  I applaud her for not thinking that she should show up to these events in flipflops and mini-skirts.

    • Anonymous

Girl needs to snack on some wild boar or something.

    • Anonymous

I dunno — when I travel I tend to take along monochromatic pieces, or pieces in the same color family, so I can minimize on number of shoes, makeup and accessories I take. Not that she couldn’t afford to pop for the additional $15 on the extra piece of luggage : D

    • Anonymous

I actually really like the Fraulein Maria dress on her.  Yeah, it’s not very exciting, but it’s flattering to her.  She continues to impress as royalty.

Except for the low rise jeans.  You guys are right–she’s too long-waisted for it.  But for a day up in the old (Canadian) west, jeans and loafers are just right.  Hope she and Bill got to do some hiking.

    • Anonymous

That dress would’ve been so cute in green or red.

    • Anonymous

The shirt almost looks like it might be a bodysuit that snaps at the crotch.

      • Anonymous

That’s what I was thinking – it looks exactly what one of those looks like on a long-waisted woman who maybe should have snapped in an extender.

With all the complaints about her thinness, maybe she’s trying to avoid showing a bony chest — ribs or collarbones, either one.  Which is probably a good call on her part.

    • Anonymous

Love the dress and the loafers are super-cute, but the rest is totally blah. Wills is still cute as a button though.

    • Anonymous

      OK, I am officially bored.

    • Anonymous

you’ve ruined me. I can’t look at Cathy C now without expecting to see her in white, beige or blue. Damn you.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AUULCEDSKXZKYP2AABC2HQOV24 Studio

I know she’s thin guys, but her hair would not be that glorious if she wasn’t eating protein.  So obviously she’s eating.  She just seems to be one of those enviable women that are naturally thin.  Yes, she had a few more pounds on her before the wedding, but it’s only been two months since the wedding and it’s okay if she hasn’t put it back on.  Now can we stop with the “get her a sandwich!” comments?

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well, and she maybe just is one of those lucky women with thin stress.  A friend of mine is like that; normally 100 lbs, when she gets stressed at work, she drops down to the low 90′s.  It’s not because she’s not eating — I know, I’ve fed her — but her body burns more when she’s stressed.

And she’s never shown anything but a trim body to begin with, so we can probably safely assume that she is fairly thin by nature.

        • Anonymous

Or fairly normal by nature, and self-disciplined, and loses while under stress.

    • Anonymous

I most vehemently disagree…. that Malene Birger dress is AMAZING and it fits her PERFECTLY.  You’re irrational dislike for classicly simple and beige is odd, at best.  This is a sublimely wonderful look for her, go for it.

The jeans and shirt is way cool as well, I really dig her sticking to her classic guns.

    • http://profiles.google.com/dchockeyguy Trevor Burroughs

The dress looks kind of like sack cloth….

The oatmeal dress is rather boring but I think she looks terrific in it.  The skinny jeans look isn’t as flattering but at least she’s going casual.  It’s really the only look I haven’t loved so far.

She has worn purple, cobalt blue, a black and white print, and a prominent red scarf along with her navys and beiges on this trip.  She’s not avoiding color completely.  On her first international trip as Duchess, she’s clearly playing it safe but for the most part she’s looked stunning.  I do hope she glams it up a bit when she gets to LA.  Wonder if she’ll wear one of Posh’s dresses.

Correct me if I’m wrong, Canadians, but isn’t Canada generally a bit less flashy fashion-wise than the US, especially LA?  And as part of the Commonwealth, her position is different in Canada than in the US as well, right?

        • Anonymous

Yes, the queen is the head of state in Canada, and appoints a Governor-General, who has the authority to call a parliamentary session or shut it down.  So William is the future king of Canada, too, as long as they’re part of the Commonwealth.  That’s a very, very over-simplified version of Canadian government; a year or so ago, when there was a big furor over something, a Canadian blogger I read regularly took the time to explain the whole system for us confused and mystified folks south of the border.

I love those pants – any guesses as to the brand?

I can’t wait to see what you have to say about the country garb they’ll be donning for the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday. There is a “private reception” here (them and 10,000 of their closest Calgary friends) that people have been lining up for days already to get a ticket to. They hand them out tomorrow

I’m rooting for matching cowboy hats.

Still classic, still appropriate, still lovely.

Did Billy only pack one suit and one pair of dress shoes for this whole trip? Also, the boy need some shoe shine in his life.

As for Cathy, she does look a bit boring, but as others have pointed out thats part of her job.
And she seriously needs to eat a burger or something.

I’d kill to have a body like hers. ugh.

Well, I LIKE the dress. Although I’m not sure the upper arms have enough give for waving.

Where I’d have hoped for more color or at least a crisp white was in the casual shirt.

But they’re NOT on tour primarily to satisfy our live-Barbie & Ken dressing desires, their clothes are supposed to be correct and pleasant and take second place to the utterance of platitudes (at least in public) and earning of good will. It’s simply her good fortune and our frustration that she’s young and thin enough to look fantastic in all those clothes we’d like to dress her up in.

That deep sleeve set looks great with your arms down, or just moving from the elbow, but lifting your arm really wrecks the look. Anchor men wear sleeves set low like this.
I like the texture in the fabric and the austerity of the design, but coming after a week’s worth of very plain dresses with this same silhouette leaves me wanting … wanting her in some of that Dior Crack on the other thread.

That jeans ensemble is adorable! But yeah…beige shirt, even? What gives, princess?

    • Vaniljekjeks

I understand that she’s a duchess and all, but oh my goodness, girl, wear some purple or magenta or something.  I am so tired of beige.

the queen mother is burined in more color than this girl wears. She looks like Banana Republic all the time to me.

    • Jill Roberts

That dress is FABULOUS.  It’s the green belt (strip of fabric) that makes it effortless and chic.  The dressed down look is darling.  I’d untuck that shirt, but as I’m sitting here in low slung jeans and a tank top tucked into them, I’m hardly one to judge.

maybe she’s just in a color mood or rut.. that happens to me sometimes.. I’ll stick to one color scheme for a while before I realize “SHIT, why are all my clothes this one color”

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I generally find myself buying clothes that are all within one color palette during my semi-annual shopping sprees.  But I switch it up each time, so that I always have a mix of older stuff and the new stuff all in different color schemes.

Have we ever seen her in a print? Oh dear, I hope she doesn’t get the reputation as the beige princess!

What’s sad is that she wears tailored clothes that flatter everyone. She should be wearing the ruffles, clingy fabrics, big prints and horizontal strips that make us mortals look too zaftig.

I love PK and her style - always so put together and polished.  Find someone else to pick on!

It’s her smile that’s winning, and her obvious love for William. Her clothes are restrained and tasteful. While they will make their designers gazillions, that’s not the point. Kate has that indefinable something — star power and charisma.

I am so glad that she is sticking to a sophisticated style and palette that doesn’t make her look boorish, slutty and vulgar like most of the women profiled here.  If she was a movie star, I could understand more of the comments here.  But she’s not and, really, she’s working and these are wonderful work clothes.  Back in the day, Princess Grace was revered for similar sophisticated yet simple tastes.  Anyway, I’m one that glad she’s not trying to be a movie star princess.

Girl does not need shoulder pads, she is broad-shouldered.  However, I think the dress is pretty cute.  I note that it is sporting something vaguely looking like green in the fabric and with the belting.  I just hate those shoes with this.  This coulda beena contenda.

i had sebago’s back in the day!
her ass looked awful in those pants.  i wish skinny pants/jeans would just go away

    • Anonymous

She’s so thin it hurts me to look at her. That dress is nicely cut and I like the ribbon (or contrasting color) waistband but what a boring color. Still she manages to look crisp, pretty and put together in a way that is just shy of either dowdy or chic. Fascinating how she walks that line.

Oy, beige. Girl is making me sleepy. I think I need a nap. But she does look really cute in that second look, but gimme some color. I gotta have color.

    • Gwen Schott

I actually like the dress, but I’m bothered by the blouse she’s wearing with the skinny pants. It looks like one of those bodysuit tops with the snaps in the crotch. If that’s the case, it’s way too short for her torso and is pulling reeeeeally hard. And is probably cutting off circulation to her hoo-ha. Honey, you’re responsible for future heirs to the throne! Let the good china breathe!!!!

I will defend her sense of style against all comers. She always looks well-put-together. The pale neutrals are appropriate for summer. There can always be quibbles – I agree sunglasses would be nice – but I think she dresses to her role and her body type nearly perfectly.

Sing it, Prunella.  She looks polished and attractive at all times.  She has an infectious smile.  She throws herself into all these events with gusto– dragon boat racing to tree planting to cooking school.  I am impressed as hell.

    • elzatelzabelz

Loved her in the purple dress a few days ago-more purple, please! Maybe she’s waiting to eat until she gets to In N Out burgers?

    • Judy Raddue

If you were the Royal Gays, I’d truly hope you’d insist she’d insist on eating something..

I like her style – I think she’s playing it a bit safe for now. We may find she loosens up as she becomes more comfortable in her role as Duchess.

It looks like she wore the jeans earlier/later in the day with a ruffled white shirt, navy blazer and wedges:  http://news.yahoo.com/photos/duke-and-duchess-of-cambridge-1308757935-slideshow/prince-william-wife-kate-duke-duchess-cambridge-tour-photo-193918199.html

Her dresses on this trip seem to have a theme: packable, easy to wear, comfortable, classic, like she could throw on some kicky shoes and baubles and go from day to evening without a big fuss.  However, based on other looks we have seen, we know she can really work an edgier look.  I get the sense she is giving the public her “classic understated young lady” image, and holding the wild n’ crazies for her private life.  I’m kind of digging her so far.

OMG, pants! I’d love to see her in a really sharp pant suit!

I love these choices. As much as I enjoy fashion, I love that she doesn’t care about pleasing the fashionistas.  She looks entirely appropriate and happy.  Wear as much ivory and navy as you want sweetheart, you do it with class.

I literally snarfed at the “Fraulein Maria collection”-is it made from the curtains in her room?? :)  And yes, girlfriend needs to eat more, lots more…

      She’s a commoner-turned-princess AND she’s thin as a bloody rail?!?

      Hate her.

    • Lisa

I have to admit – it’s the “Stop! Cambridge Time!” that made this whole column for me!

She would have looked cute with a ponytail since this is a casual look and it seems like she’s always getting her hair out of her face in almost every picture of her with her hair down.  But hair in the face is a pet peeve of mine.

I would like to include some very modern jewelry pieces to go with a pair of shades.  Something to give one little wow to her conservative tailored looks.
