WERQ: Cameron Diaz in Akris

Posted on June 20, 2011

We don’t normally shout out “WERQ!” to the same person twice in one week, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t do a little gay gasp when we saw these pictures:

Cameron Diaz attends the ‘Bad Teacher’ Germany Premiere in Akris. Styled by Rachel Zoe.

Akris Pre-Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Cecilia Mendez

We’re not normally the types of gays to get all excited over a lady in a jumpsuit, because let’s face it, most ladies really can’t pull them off. And of that tiny percentage of ladies who can pull them off, there’s an even tinier percentage who can pull off the high-waisted variety.

But we do get all atwitter when a celebugal will break out the pants in a public appearance, especially if she gets it right. You look at enough red carpet pictures every day and you get good and sick of neutral colored cocktail dresses. Yes, it’s a high-waisted jumpsuit and we’d rarely ever call that a good idea, but we can’t see one wrong thing here. She looks striking and chic.

She looks beautiful…but I feel like the belt would’ve enhanced the look.

      • http://profiles.google.com/mercbubble42 Jessica O’Connell

Agreed, I’m missing the belt from the runway pic, or even a colored belt. It’s very chic but I do think she looks a little one note and boxy without something to further define her waist.

I agree, it needs a belt to make it perfect! A thin little gold belt would be nice.

      • Anonymous

i agree!  i was about to type the same thing, but saw yours and decided a reply would be better.  she does look great, but she coulda turned it up to 11 with a statement belt.  i suppose that zoe & co. was trying to steer away from a copycat look, but the right belt would’ve made it stand on its own, away from the lookbook.

      • Patricia Biswanger

That’s the first thing I thought when I saw it!

      • Anonymous

I can’t stand her.  AT ALL.  But agree with everyone who thinks she should have worn a belt.

She looks great, very Charlie’s Angels (in a good way).

    • http://twitter.com/miggylol Miggy!

I wish she’d included a belt for a pop of even mild contrast. Her waist is obliterated for me in that first picture.

      • Anonymous

Yes, something at the waist would’ve been nice. It looks like she’s using Fred Mertz as a style icon.

      Almost – needs the belt.

    • http://twitter.com/wrenaria Kimmy Hescock

I agree on the need for a belt. Otherwise, looking good.

    • Michelle Prahl

Wish she would have kept the belt.

I would have liked sandals… it is summer after all.  And her shoes actually look like satin.

Hair looks fairly clean, cheekbones plumped… I wouldn’t call it werq… but it’s okay.

    • http://profiles.google.com/alison.sigman Alison Sigman

She looks great, but I wish she would have put on a belt. Small concern for sure.

    • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

We’ll give you this one. But no more Cameron compliments.

      Belt needed!

    • Anonymous

A contrasting belt would make it perfect. Still, she’s rocking this. I’m so envious of her arms/shoulders. That girl is fit!

    • Anonymous

I’m Team Add a Belt, but honestly, without the model photo, I don’t even know that I would have thought that. It looks like this jumpsuit was made for her. Beautiful.

    • Anonymous

I’m on “meh” here.  Not only are pantsuits hard to pull off, but even when you can pull them off, they rarely look better than “meh.”  Actually, I’ve never seen one look better than “meh,” so maybe it’s just me.

    • Anonymous

This is the best she’s looked in quite some time. Love it!

    • Anonymous

It’s such an improvement over her usual goochie girl thing I’ll have to go with you on this. WERQ, indeed. Nice to see her dress like a woman for a change.

    • http://profiles.google.com/richixcore Richi Robilotto

Gurl need a belt to break up all that black, but she looks good in that jumpsuit…and I never thought I would ever utter that last

    • Anonymous

I dont see anything particularly intriguing about this look. Its just a jumpsuit.

    • Anonymous

      Monotone. One piece. High waisted.
As if girlfriend needed to emphasize the length of her legs? They look 3 miles long in this, instead of her usual 2 miles.

    • Anonymous

This may be the best I’ve ever seen her look.

    • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous and super sexy! Like some other posters, I think the look might have benefitted from a belt, but it also looks great as is.

    • Anonymous

I agree that she looks great.  It seems odd not to have a clutch though, and a sparkly one would have added a nice touch (aside from the bangles.)

    • MilaXX

looks great but she could stand a belt.

    • Anonymous

Yeah- it needs the belt. But she looks fab in that.

    • Anonymous

      Best she’s looked in ages.

    • Anonymous

I think it looks like her shoulders are connected to her hips/legs?

    • Anonymous

I love! It says “I don’t need no stinkin’ accessories, I’m enough by myself”, and what do you know, she is. And look at her pants, they are hemmed! *bursts out into applause*

    • Anonymous

She looks better than the model, who looks too demure.  She has that, “I am killing this high-waist, halter jumpsuit and you all know it.”  formerlyAnon is right – very Charlie’s Angels.

See, Cameron, you can look sexy without the gyno skirts.

    • Anonymous

Finally….a classy out fit befitting her age and status.

    • Courtney Hellams

Desperately in need of a skinny belt.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I wish she would have kept the belt, but it’s okay without it.

While I agree that most women can’t make it work, think of the number of things that Iman or Cate Blanchett wear that wouldn’t work on most…  It’s precisely because it DOESN’T work for most that makes it so striking when it does.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Needs a belt, but otherwise, great.

    • Anonymous

Really?!?!  “WERQ”?  I’m not feeling it.  The waist is too high and lumpy and a belt is absolutely needed.  The hair and make up are good but the jumpsuit is not quite flattering.  Sorry, no WERQ from me.

    • Lisa

This is MUCH better than that sequined zebra thing she had on the last time – simple, but very nice!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_N6PV62K6EE26DYVEQPXLC5P4TI Rebecca

      very chic

    • Anonymous

She does pull it off. But her artfully stringy hair bugs me.

    • Anonymous

I agree with others – the belt woulda been a good idea, but that’s minor. Girlfriend looks fierce!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jennifer-Blais/682440192 Jennifer Blais

Awesome. Extra points for being different. And no belt is needed here at all! (in fact that would totally f*** up the look)

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

Perfect. A belt would have made it look pedestrian.

    • Jason Kramer

From what  I can decipher from ladies’ jumpsuits, they are nearly impossible to adjust for using the restroom….as in, you basically get naked to pee….am I right ladies? help me understand. I honestly can’t see the point in something so impractical….sorry for the tangent…though she does warrant a WERQ!

      • Anonymous

Yes, you’re right. I made the mistake of wearing a jumpsuit to a club once. Never again.

As for Cameron, I don’t know. I think she’s one of those women who doesn’t wear clothes all that well. Something always looks off to me. I mean, all the elements of WERQ are present here, but I’m not seeing it.

        • Anonymous

You may not have meant to make me laugh, but oh yes. Jumpsuit. Club. Recreational substances, (plural). Filthy bathroom.  Ahh, youth.

          • Anonymous

A good laugh is a wonderful thing.

Ahh youth indeed. Only the young and fashion conscious would make that mistake even once. On the plus side, not that it’s worth much, it was a really fabulous jumpsuit.

      • Anonymous

Practical is SO not a criteria for fashionable women’s wear. See also: stiletto heels; platform stiletto heels, neck to knees spanx/spanx-like (& worse) foundation garments; panty hose . . . .

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L6FKGKUXWF6QSWWYAHJZYKKI3E Adrian

I vote for a gold chain belt, because it would have referenced the pocket watch as the lapels reference a double breasted suit coat, and that would have been rad. A bowler hat would have taken it right over the top, but then I’m sure that’s just me. LOL

    • http://www.facebook.com/Nestor.Chocolato NesTtor Chocolato

      nice whore

    • http://twitter.com/ShelfAfterlife Shelf Afterlife

Needs a belt, but at least we can see her feet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Say what you will about Rachel Zoe, but she’s a damn good stylist. This is perfect on Cameron, whom I loathe and never think looks good.

What’s with the tiresome trend of pants dragging the floor? Cam’s are actually hemmed so you can see a microslice of heel but it still looks dumb. Ladies, your legs look like elephant columns when we can’t see your shoes!

    • Lattis

I LOVE the way she looks here. Reminds me of Fred Astaire . . .

I’m puttin’ on my top hat
      Tyin’ up my white tie
      Brushin’ off my tails

I’m dudin’ up my shirt front
      Puttin’ in the shirt studs
      Polishin’ my nails

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

I don’t think it quite works. There’s something off about the proportions. It looks better on the model (it always does). The belt probably would’ve fixed it.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

I miss the belt. Bored now.

    • Anonymous

Now THAT, Missy, is how to show off your long legs!

But yeah, I miss the belt, too.

    • Anonymous

Good look for her.  The waistline sits on the narrowest part of her torso.  That may be considered “high waisted” in today’s market, but it is her true waist from a dressmaking perspective.

    • Anonymous

Wonderful! Totally agree with the Astaire comment. Give that gal a top hat and a cane ’cause she’s steppin’ out!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

I LOVE JUMPSUITS! I can never understand why people hate them, although to be fair, a lot of jumpsuits are worn incorrectly. The belt would have improved the suit though.

    • Anonymous

I’m guessing she’s sick of all the bitchery online about her shitty looks, so she decided to step it up.
She looks great; you have to be tall and slim to pull this kind of thing off. My only complaint is that she could have ramped it up with some statement jewelry or at least a really gorgeous belt. That sad little bangle looks like an afterthought.

    • http://twitter.com/merrigator merrigator

It’s as if that pantsuit was made just for her. She looks fabulous.

    • Anonymous

That pantsuit looks perfect on her….I m a bit jealous….

    • Anonymous

I always have the same redundant comments about her styling. Nail polish, belt, statement accessories, color, hair styling, make – up and so on …

    • Anonymous

You gasped because she looked chic and AGE APPROPRIATE.

    • Diana Martinez

      No! NEEDS a belt.  Ugh.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Silvia-Orellana/100000159114360 Silvia Orellana

Dislike. It seems on her as if the top and the bottom of the jumpsuit were made of different fabrics. The black pointed toe heel make it look monochromatic, and her hair is so boring!
Buuuuuut, she doesn’t look drunk, so she at least gets a pass.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rachelruthlee Rachel Lee

I’d have liked a bit of colour somewhere but the girl looks smashing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

      She looks awesome.
