Pairs Division: Huntington-Whiteley and LaBeouf

Posted on June 27, 2011

Let’s start the week off with a double shot of opinionating, shall we, darlings?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Shia LaBeouf attend the German premiere of ‘Transformers 3′  in Berlin.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is wearing a Naeem Khan gown.

Naeem Khan Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Esme Wissels

SHE: Looks stunning, full stop. You would think even nasty queens like us would find it impossible to criticize, but then you would be silly to think that. Here it is: while she looks impeccable, the problem is… she looks impeccable. No, that’s not quite it. The problem is, she looks like she’s heading to the Oscars. Female stars do occasionally dress to the nines for their movie premieres, but a look like this is usually reserved for the opening of Very Important Films and/or Oscar bait. For the third installment of a big, loud, and dumb toy commercial, this is perhaps a bit much. We’re taking half a point off for overdressing. Score: 9.5/10.

HE: Looks fine, if a bit rumpled. Aside from the pants, which need hemming, our only other complaint is how dull he looks. This is for your first day on the job as a first year associate. We’re always grateful when a male star puts the effort in, but that blue shirt with a black tie is a bit depressing and business-like. Again, half-point off. Score: 9.5/10. To be honest, that seems a little high to us for such a basic look, but our complaints are minor, so he scores as high as she did.

Combined score: 9.5/10. We keep going back to the pictures to reassess, but really, they both look pretty great.

Damn. We wanted to start the week off a whole lot bitchier than that.

I think he should lode another half point for the ridiculous facial hair.

      She does look stunning, though.

      • Anonymous

        My thought exactly!

        • Anonymous

He’s nicely groomed though. At least he doesn’t look like Grizzly Adams (Brad Pitt!) I don’t mind facial hair. I just don’t like it when it looks like it’s going to take over the room.

And at least another full point for leaving his hand in his pocket for lord knows how long

    • Anonymous

This dress is TTDF and she looks sublime and divine. He looks great and all, but a bit too much like he’s attending the reading of grandpa’s will. However, you’re right. They’re both a bit too dressed to the nines for this film. I’m in total agreement with your scores.

    • Anonymous

He should lose another couple of points for just looking bored and half assed.  She is carrying this photo to the extreme and he should have at least made an effort to be more animated and stand up straight.

    • Anonymous

she looks painfully good…She has been looking that good in all the promotional touring, isn’t she tired yet?
I secretly hate her, but it’s all envy really…
He looks SOOO boring, i would have given him a 7 or 8 just to teach him a lesson!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well, she is a VS model who did a Michael Bay movie… her job is basically to look amazing.

    • Anonymous

She has been practically on the red carpet lately.   This is another absolutely stunning look.

I find him dull.  Not much else to say.

    • Anonymous

Rose is some otherworldy goddess figure in every respect in these shots.  He however looks like a most junior partner at a low rent law firm.  His rumpled appearance, apart from the pants being about an inch and a half too long is due to the fact that his jacket doesn’t fit him properly.  Its too fully cut through the waist and chest, creating a drag down effect and the sleeves are too narrow near the shoulder line.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=523566011 Dawn Grimes Stough

i think his super high douche factor would warrant at least a full point taken off…  but maybe that’s just me?  :(

      • Isadora Paiva

        It’s not just you honey.

      • Anonymous

Oh Its Sooooooo not just you.  He annoys the crap out of me.

      • Anonymous

Definitely not just you.  I’m under the impression he’s considered “hot,” but – meh, milquetoast.  With bad facial hair.  Still, he can wear a suit.

She?  Whoever she is, dayum, she looks stunning.

        • Anonymous

Yeah, I don’t see the hotness either.  He looks like he’s 12 years old. She’s so beautiful she should probably be locked up.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I don’t find him hot, but I do like him.  To me he comes across as honest and basically a decent guy.  And I really like a lot of the movies he chooses — Transformers, Indiana Jones (even if the script for that movie sucked, it’s still Indy).

YES! I always think someone needs to change his diaper and powder his butt… he looks so juvenile. But that’s just me, as well.

    • http://parisiennelauren.wordpress.com/ Lauren

I really didn’t know much about her before seeing your two posts – the assumptions I’d made about her for working on this movie have been completely thrown in my face with her seemingly perfect, timeless looks that are class head to toe. Good for her. This is how you break into the film business from the modeling world. Take note, Ms. Fox.

      • Anonymous

Well, merely looking good has always been one way to break into the film business (stop the presses!).

She works well on the RC, but one would expect her to — I mean, she has a more than credible background and rep beyond Victoria’s Secret … especially compared to Megan Fox’s modeling experience.
Unfortunately, RH-W’s ‘work’ in the actual movie is hilariously/grimly awful — even though Transformers sets the bar pretty low for the human element to begin with.

From what I’ve seen she makes Kate Bosworth, say, seem like Laura Linney.  Poor KB, who can neither act nor model, continues to have a career in ‘the film business.’ so anything is possible in Hollywood.
(Unless – like Ms. Fox, ahem – you offend Spielberg)

P.S. The model-to-film I’m most anxious (in both senses) to see is Natalia Vodianova in ‘Belle du Seigneur’ next year.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well it’s not easy to give a great performance in your first movie when the sum total of your direction is “Stand there, look hot.”  And since that’s all Bay really gives to women generally.  (And I dig Bay movies, I’m just not looking for female performances in them — I’m looking for things blowing up:)

As for Fox, she didn’t just offend Spielberg.  She offended everyone — to the point that everyone from the crew was saying how she was awful to work with.

          • http://twitter.com/_serenachan Serena

Bah. I have yet to see proof that that letter wasn’t fake. Also, the “she offended Spielberg” thing is bull, since there are pictures of her on the set of Transformers 3, months after she allegedly “offended” Spielberg. She was just fed up of dealing with Bay’s sexual harassment, which is clear if you read between the lines of Shia’s interviews.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, there are photos of her on set, but I wasn’t assuming that Spielberg wanted her fired because of her comments about Bay.  He wanted her fired because she was doing a terrible job and being a completely disruptive presence on set.

As for Bay’s sexual harassment, that’s crap.  There was nothing in any interview I read that suggested she was sexually harassed, which implies she had to be sexually available to keep her job.  Was she objectified on screen? Absolutely… as is any woman who works for Michael Bay!  That’s part of his style.  But since her entire job on Transformers was to be sexually enticing in a very juvenile-male way, that’s not harassment.

          • http://twitter.com/_serenachan Serena

No one expects “a great performance” from anyone, much less a newbie – esp. female – in a Michael Bay movie.  I don’t know exactly how low Bay’s ‘performance’ standards are, but even a Bay-loving audience should expect dialog to be delivered as a human being might.  And Miss H-W could not manage even that.
            Is all I’m saying.

(As for my Fox/Spielberg comment: I guess the winky air quotes were completely undetectable.  Didn’t mean to light a match, y’all!)

    • http://janeaustensworld.wordpress.com/ Vic

Much like Steve Guttenberg’s good fortune in the 80’s, I have wondered about Shia’s luck as a film actor. I find very little about him unforgettable. He sort of fades into the woodwork, like Guttenberg did, and will fade from memory, as Guttenberg has.

Obviously the Stonecutters at work again.

    • Vaniljekjeks

This girl can wear the heck out of clothing.  If it wasn’t posted as a “pairs division” I don’t think I would have noticed there was anyone else there with her.

    • Judy_J

That dress is gorgeous, and she looks stunning in it.  But, as you pointed out, it is a bit much for a movie premiere.  Still, I think it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed, don’t you?

      • Anonymous

Agreed, but it will be hard to top a dress like that when she does attend the Oscars. Though, I’m sure she’ll find a way.

        • Anonymous

Maybe this unfair, since I haven’t even Transfer III, but I doubt she will be attending  the Oscars as a nominee for best actress. ;)

Perhaps Rosie wanted pull out all the stops for her moment in the sun.

        • Anonymous

A virtually identical dress with High Impact accessories will do fine, if she carries herself in motion as well as she poses.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=12500056 Joseph Lamour

Do we need to take a big shot of “yeah right” that Shia could get a girl like Megan Fox AND a girl like Rosie?

      • Michelle Le

YES. But it’s a Michael Bay film…and I use the word “film” there loosely…

That guy is such a creep.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well I don’t know about Rosie because I haven’t seen the 3rd one yet, but as far as Fox, when you save the world from giant robots in front of the girl you get the girl.  Before that she couldn’t remember his name.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks a little robotic, honestly.  Very fembot, and not in a good way.  Maybe it’s because her facial expression is so stiff usually, and almost always the same.  The dress is definitely TDF though, and in my mental when I win the lottery closet…

      • Anonymous

I have to tell you that I agree with this 100% .  My first impression was that she kind of gave me the creeps–she doesn’t look human.  I had the same thought when I saw last week’s post (first time I had ever seen her)–she needs to loosen up just a bti-throw  a warm smile out there.  She’s beautiful and the dress is gorge on her, though.

      • Anonymous

I would have nixed the belt, particularly with the backless dress.  However, after seeing the model sample, there’s already a seam breaking up the dress at the waist, so a belt is perfect, especially the tiny, metal one Rosie is wearing.  Nicely done!

    • Anonymous

She looks so great and he looks like he dressed for a different event. I’m not saying they should match, but shouldn’t they be in the same ballpark?

    • Lauren Bradshaw

      The molestache has to go.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, she looks stunning, but I can’t help feeling like the dress is wearing her.  The way she’s self-consciously leaning back, letting the dress dictate her posture and movement instead of her working the dress…I really feel like she’s a mannequin here, as opposed to a flesh-and-blood person.  I think that means it’s too much dress, for her, at this juncture.

      • Anonymous

I thought the overly mannered posing worked, here. It’d look ridiculous if she was in a sun dress, or a cocktail dress. But overdressed or not, she was going for Drama and Glamor and gave a stereotypical old time studio still shot.

    • Anonymous

She’s dressed for the Oscar’s and he’s dressed for drinks with friends. He looks fine. She looks ravishing. But they’re mix matched as a couple.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

I’m so out of it, I don’t know who she is, but she looks gorgeous.  I like the addition of the belt, too–gives it a little extra definition around the waist.  And I agree with a prior poster.  He may be a sweetheart in real life, but he comes across as a total DB in every picture I can remember.

    • MilaXX

I agree they both look great. She has been rockin the press junket for this film fairly consistantly. 9.5/10
Shia gets a deduction for the hem. 9/10

    • Anonymous

Is it a coincidence that Shia’s shirt matches the writing on the backdrop? She looks stunning but definitely overdressed for the occasion. There’s something about her look that makes me easily believe one review of her acting – “sucking the life out of every scene she appears in like some pneumatic Dyson sexbot”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

What you consider a big, dumb toy commercial, I consider highly entertaining — and GIANT box office.  It’s also her first movie role ever, so I think she should get a pass; it’s reasonable to assume this is an IMPORTANT movie for her.  However, it would have been better without the train.  A train is a bit much for any premiere.

And while his look is a bit boring, I’d much rather see a male celeb dressed appropriately and boring than one trying to be stylish or cute and just looking like an arrogant douche.

    • http://www.kittenmasks.com/ kittenmasks

Minus points for the capped sleeves on the dress.
      Capped sleeves are your friend!!!

    • Anonymous

She:  WAAAAAYYYY overdressed!  This is a movie…not a “film” for their consideration.
He:  Needs a tailor and a good steaming.  Also, needs a white shirt with a different tie as the solid tie and mini tattersall patterned shirt is too casual.

    • Allie Carter

That reflective floor makes her dress look spectacular.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Catherine-Rhodes/602850414 Catherine Rhodes

Doesn’t it look like two images were photoshopped together? She’s on the red carpet at the Oscars and he’s posing for his senior prom shot.

She is womanly, chic and taller than him… he’s just ordinary. No wonder he’s not smiling.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=167100010 Meghan Young

Why doesn’t he lose any points for grotesque facial hair and hair gel application that resembles an extra on The Sopranos? He just looks so… greasy and unwashed.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=167100010 Meghan Young

And why is she leaning SO FAR BACK in all of her pictures. I think she should lose a point for posing like an off-kilter mannequin.

        • Anonymous

Oh, I disagree. I think the draMAHtic posing pushes the dress up a full notch. It IS exaggerated, but I think sometimes fancy schmancy dresses don’t work because the wearer stands and walks as if they’re wearing their jeans into Target.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

She looks gorgeous although I’m not a fan of one shoulder hair. He would look really good, if he wasn’t standing next to her. Do celebrities (or their stylists) communicate for these events? Because yes, Rosie definitely over-dressed for the event, but it’s making Shia’s perfectly acceptable ensemble look painfully under dressed next to her. She needs a man in a tux to stand next to that can keep up with that level of stunning, perhaps Colin Firth in some Tom Ford?

      • Anonymous

        She should get so lucky!

    • Anonymous

He’s really more of an 8 than a 9.5; ridiculous facial hair and painful pant hem.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks pretty flawless, and don’t care that she’s overdressed.  She’s seizing the opportunity and spotlight…good for her. 10

He doesn’t look like he’s attending the same event as her…not his fault though.  I dislike the blue shirt here, and of course, the rumpled pants.  I like his scruff though…he’s adorable and looks great.   8.5/10

      9.25/10

    • http://twitter.com/alileonard Alison Leonard

She gets major points from me for going for classy and sexy rather than just SEXY which would probably have been expected given the film. She looks stunning. Bitch!

    • Anonymous

2 points off of his score for the dour look on his face.  She’s a perfect 10.

    • Anonymous

She should be a case study for Red Carpet Dressing 101. Her hair did not detract and she is making the very best of that dress – without her carriage and careful pose it would not have come off nearly as well.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Stop being b*tches and give that poor girl back that half point! It’s her first major movie and just for that she gets to ham it up as much as she likes.

    • Mariah J

She’s shiny and metallic, just like a transformer.

    • Anonymous

Gotta disagree on the boringness of the suit.  Given the light sheen, it has more of a “going out” suit look to it, and is spot on.  If as a first year associate he wore this, he’d get branded as fancy boy.   It just looks a bit dull when compared to her Oscars dress. The facial hair is annoying, but I suppose he’s trying to remind us all that he isn’t a kid anymore, and at least it is well trimmed, as opposed to the guys who look like they just forgot to shave.  She is stunning, but overdressed.  If this were Cannes, she might get a pass.

      • Anonymous

Well said and agree on all points.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002209332020 Molly Maguire

Isn’t this her first premiere, silly film or not? AND she’s wearing her hair down (and if she really were overdoing it, it would be in a more formal up-do); AND the (incredibly lovely) dress is shiny, yes, but quite modest, at least in front. I call a 10.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

And there’s something very appropriate in wearing a shiny metallic to the premiere of your giant robot movie :)

BWA hahaha!  Taking off half a point for overdressing is fabulous!!  Love you!

    • Anonymous

See, I think his pant hem is perfect. I don’t like the ones that buckle and pool to ridiculous effect, but neither do I care for a hem that barely breaks – it’s got to hit at the laces with a good break, otherwise you risk high-water syndrome when moving and especially when sitting.

    • Anonymous

i think i know where the .5 point deductions are coming from – they are so stiff it looks like they are posing for pictures in someone’s living room before going to some high school dance.

    • http://twitter.com/sockandaphone Gaby

I dont think she looks stunning. She looks kinda blah and she reminds me of Taylor Swift, which is not a compliment.

    • Anonymous

She’s too perfect and somehow this is equal to his dull and boring look?  huh?

    • Shawn Hill

She’s too pretty to diss, and he dressed up to her level. Which was the right thing to do, so what choice did you have?

    • Anonymous

Damn. This girl keeps working it, and y’all will have to move her to the top of the list of generally praise-worthy red carpeteers.

    • http://www.facebook.com/notadouche Jeffrey D Foldenauer

What–no point deduction for douchy facial hair? There’s also something off about his hairl. It kind of reminds me of a hairnet one might wear while working at Wendy’s. She looks good. He on the other hand is nowhere near a 9.5 in my opinion.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L6FKGKUXWF6QSWWYAHJZYKKI3E Adrian

I think the suit is poorly tailored. I mean, it might be tailored fine for someone shorter and heavier, but for him it’s poorly tailored. The sleeves are a bit too short, it isn’t quite long enough, and it’s a little boxy. I’d venture he needs a 38 Long, and this is a 40 Regular.

    • Anonymous

Wow, she dressed to the nines for a Transformers premiere? Odd, but she looks fantastic. Could he not bring himself to smile? Did someone run over his puppy? Between the sad sack expression and the facial hair I’d deduct another point. Well, not really. His suit looks pretty sharp.

      HE:  Boring, basic and bland.

SHE:  The gown is pretty and looks good on her but I hate the belt.  And heck, props to her for getting dressed to the nines for a premiere ofa stinktastic movie.  She knows she’s not going to get nominated for an Oscar so why not take advantage of the situation and turn it out!  You go girl!

I actually think she looks better than the model but… the dour posing reminds me of Madam Toussads.

I think that if the dress was shorter – maybe knee length – it would have looked a lot better for the event. It was gorgeous, but not event appropriate.

Oh, come on, TLo! I can get behind only taking half a point off Huntington-Whiteley, but I reckon you could have taken a couple more points off LaBeouf for being so outstandingly dull.

She’s scary.  Steal your soul scary.  He’s such a douche all I can think of is vomiting when I see him. That slicked back hair…I think he probably smells like hair oil and bongwater.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Obviously since she’s a mega model herself, she looks better in that dress than the original model, but points also the stylist too. Adding the belt was a great choice, or else she would have just been one pillar of silver sequins. The belt adds more dimension.
