Cover Girl: Mila Kunis for LA Confidential in Lanvin

Posted on June 03, 2011

Oh dear. Mila Kunis gave a much-talked-about performance in probably the most talked-about film last year and now she’s got a movie coming out where she has to fake-shtup Justin Timberlake. We have concerns. But hey, at least we get this gorgeous cover out of it:

Mila Kunis covers the LA Confidential magazine’s Summer issue.

And we’re thrilled to see someone working the shit out of that dress after Blake Lively almost ruined it for everybody. It’s a super-fab dress and strangely under-represented in editorials, which have a tendency to use the same dresses over and over again. Also, kudos to whoever picked the fantastic pair of shoes:

Sometimes a pretty cover shot is all you need. She looks fabulous. It’s a lot of dress and she’s a tiny gal, but she’s more than pulling it off.

Does she have a blonde streak in her hair now? or is it the lighting? If it’s so, I like it.

    • Anonymous

I think just that one bit of the bangs? Yeah, it is.

      I like it too.

  • Anonymous

Love that dress, but I think it’s too much for her. Too much fabric and not a flattering color on her either.

  • Anonymous

Beautiful.  I love to see neutrals done well.

  • MilaXX

She looks great! They managed to make her look tall and leggy, and yes the shoes are fab.

  • Anonymous

She looks beyond fabulous here. Who would have guessed that hilariously bitchy Jackie from That 70’s Show would turn into a star(let) and a fashionista?

  • angela rose sarno

definitely hot hot hot- I guess Ms. Lively didn’t have a wind machine when she wore it.

    • Anonymous

Exactly, that dress just does not work without a wind machine or unless you are moving (REALLY fast!). Also, since she’s facing away, you can’t see the weird collar/waist strap, which improves the look (again, unless you are constantly moving), so I can’t necessarily blame Ms. Lively…

    • Helen C

She also wasn’t lifting her dress up to get her thighs and lady-parts to be photographed the way Ms. Lively was…

  • Emily

    Wow.  What a stunning cover.

  • Judy_J

She looks amazing.  And worlds better than Blake did when she sported this dress.

  • Teresa Rebecca Cunningham

What the heck?! I thought you guys hated ankle straps?

  • Anonymous

I like the pose, the shapes, the lighting, but not a fan of the palette. I think there are more flattering neutrals and more flattering colors – pastel or bright – that she could have worn.

    But perhaps I quibble.

  • Anonymous

The dress is beautiful on her and remember, Blake is *shy*, which is of course why she opened that dress up like curtains inviting you to stand in awe of her holy land.

You made me laugh with a snort. That’s how I know your comment is very funny.

Nice picture.  “LA Confidential” bugs me.  They seem to jam it into my mailbox every month and I have never asked for it.  It is full of ads for expensive watches.

  • Terence

I like that you’ve transcended your hatred for ankle straps.

  • Jennifer Marie Wegmann-Gabb

She looks amazing!  Love the shoes.  I do have to mention that Natalie Portman was in a similar movie fake-shtuping Ashton Kutcher and frankly I’d take Justin Timberlake over Kutcher any day.  At least Timberlake can sing and dance…jsia.

  • Thom Bardin

…Not my favorite, really, as a matter of taste: the hair seems heavy and limp, like it lost the set for a more Veronica Lake-like style. Since the dress is really about the skirt, I don’t think this was the best photo of the skirt, which looks significantly stiffer and less shapely in this frame, almost in the shape of insect wings. It’s a good photo for her legs and face, but I’m not as convinced as you two.

I agree about the hair, but I think the rest of her looks fabulous.

Personally, I love an ankle-strap, but as soon as I saw the image, I was like, “oh-oh, TLo ain’t gonna like this.” I’m glad you  boys dig the shoes. I love this dress, but for this shot, the shoes really make it. Nice shot of Mila. She looks tall and leggy.

  • Michaela T.

wait wait wait – forget Mila, yeah, girl looks amazing, what’s new – but look at the model – and her gorgeous, gorgeous thighs. A model with thighs. I could weep for the joy.

Also, I could weep for want of those shoes. Absolutely fabulous.

  • Rand Ortega

God, she’s gorgeous. Definite model instincts in her posing. Those shoes are killing me I want them so bad.
There’s talk she’s the front runner to play Elizabeth Taylor in Martin Scorsese’s biopic of “Le Scandale”, the Burton/Taylor love affair. $’s on Gerard Butler to play Burton.

    • Sara Munoz

      Oh god really?? Enh…

    • Anonymous

pleaseee, NOOOOO!  Gerald Butler, can’t go if he’s Burton!

  • Manon Eileen

    Wow, those shoes are amazing!!

And I love the shoot. The dress looks great, too.
The hair is very Rogue, lol.

Gorgeous Mila Kunis is most def working  the hell out of a scrumptiously delicous dress, and those fabulousfabulous shoes were made to convert one and  all into ankle strap worshippers. But that pose is classic Victorian streetwalker. Just plop her in the middle of a gaslit cobblestone alley in London 150 years ago and you can hear the other ladies of the night whispering, “Oi! If I wore me that bit o’ frippery I’d be havin’ a few more bob in pocket, wouldn’t I, guv?”

great cover, the side pose hides the distracting cut of the top of the dress and the boob bondage belt. those shoes really make the picture, that and the fact that mila is gorgeous and knows how to pose for fashion editorials.

  • Anonymous

I think this is a dress that works way better in editorial, with a fan, the exact right pose, etc., than it is does in reality. She looks gorgeous. The neutral dress and background really makes you look at the her face first and foremost. I love those shoes. Wish my feet and budget would allow them in my closet!

  • amanda crow

Blake Lively “almost ruined” the dress? You guys gave her an IN, remember? I think she looked great in it, even if her posing was tacky.

    Mila looks great too, obvs.

  • margaret meyers

Blake was too  s h y  to wear this dress properly.  Mila is up to the task.  And the Lanvin shoes are perfect.

  • Lisa

GORGEOUS!!  On Mila, that is.  On Blake… not so much!

  • Anonymous

Sorry, but I have to ask:  Is that model’s hootie showing?

Any chance of just advertisement for the new L word once per screen? It is almost impossible to read the blog content with so much moving around the words. Is four really necessary?

    • Anonymous

Really? I don’t recall ever seeing an ad on this site. Maybe it’s my browser.

      • Anonymous

Really? I have four ads for the Real L Word on my screen, but they are movies so there is constant motion while I am trying to read. It is really annoying

  • Sara Munoz

Ahhhh! That dress! Mila looks fantastic. Love her.

  • Anonymous

    omg those shoes.

  • Anonymous

Beautiful cover. It has an almost sepia toned softness. The Lanvins are gorgeous. Love.

  • Jessica Zeng

fabulous shoes? what happened to your dislike of ankle strap eh? (i mean, i agree, they’re awesome)

  • Celia

Could not agree with you guys more. I’m amazed this dress looks so fresh and new here, and how well a tiny gal like her is pulling it off.

  • akprincess72

That is a truly great cover shot, well done!
