Cover Girl: Mia Wasikowska for Harper’s Bazaar Australia

Posted on June 30, 2011

It Girl of the moment Mia Wasikowska puts on Eyre for the cover of Harper’s and nails yet another picture.

Mia Wasikowska channels Jane Eyre for Harper’s Bazaar Australia’s
August 2011 issue, photographed by Will Davidson.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Collection/Model: Natasha Poly (WOMEN)

Say what you will about her casting in the role, the girl’s got presence when you put a camera on her. Love the dress on her and that tiny little cameo-esque necklace was the perfect bit of styling.

That model looks like a bobblehead. Who styles these photo shoots?

Credit where credit is due, Mia makes the dress look sane.

Hope there were no small children near the runway, that model was styled to produce nightmares.

This particular photo says “Baby Cate Blanchett”.

Oh, I totally approve of this statement.

        • Anonymous

          RIGHT??
There’s just so much to love about this girl.

That just gave me a crazy flashback to the “Monique’s mother” scene in First Wives Club, except Elizabeth Berkley has been replaced by Mia and Goldie Hawn by Cate. So thank you for that, from the bottom of my heart. <3

She has a weirdly long neck…

      • Anonymous

Put anyone with a long neck in a Peter Pan collar and the neck becomes longer.  I know from experience.

        • lilibetp

It’s not just the collar; she actually has a VERY long neck.  I keep wondering how many extra vertebrae she has…

That dress was made for her. Well done!

“The hills are alive…!” And that poor model, someone was getting revenge, putting her in that getup.

That said, the cover shot of Mia is very pretty and fashion-y.

Love everything about it but the windswept hair in particular.

I think there may be a East Coast/ West Coast divide here.  Except for the more impractically fashion-forward pairs, I have no problem whatsoever with sandals on men.  In fact, I was a little surprised it was even under discussion, aside from the socks issue (put me down as a ‘nay’ on that one).  However I am willing to concede that I’ve been biased by my Seattle upbringing.  How about it? Are you adamant nayers uptight East-Coasters or am I way off-base here?

Why on the model was that dress covered with a clear plastic raincoat?  Did she loose a bet?

    • Katie Wilson

Wait, who was saying something about her casting in the role?  She played Jane intelligently and sensitively.  One to watch!

    • margaret meyers

Thank heavens they lost the Old Lady Can Stuff It in he Shopping Bag raincoat and rain hat.

She’s so pretty and I forgot to see that movie. Netflix! The model version, OTOH, stopped me dead in my tracks with terror.

      Gorgeous cover!

Why does the dress look so shitty on the model? Why is it wrapped in plastic?

    • Lisa

Oh, I love it!  Much better on Mia than on the model – so lovely!

    • Anonymous

thankfully less of a nip show on Mia than the unfortunate model who also appears to be wearing my Oma’s plastic raincoat and babushka…..

Mia just makes me sigh . . .
(And Marc should be ashamed for making the striking Miss Poly look like grim death.)

    • Anonymous

Just beautiful. It looks 10,000 x better on the cover of Baazar on the body of Mia, than it does on Louis Vuitton’s runway.

Isn’t it nice when the commentariat can all agree that poor Natasha looks awful in Marc-y Marc’s styling? Oh my.

Love Mia. She looks good in clothes and takes pictures surprisingly well. You put her and Carey Mulligan in a room and the world explode from too much adorable baby fabulousness.

      • Sterlyn Bumgarner

The stylist for the show was actually Katie Grand

MJ actually gives someone a blank check?   Goodness!

I thought she was fantastic as Jane Eyre! It thought it was a beautiful film by a promising director.

    • Anonymous

I love her. And I thought her being cast as Jane Eyre was a masterstroke. She was brilliant in that movie and to me embodied Jane to a T. She really has presence in front of the camera- both on film and in this photo.

She’s no Ruth Wilson, is all I’m saying.

    • MilaXX

She looks lovely, but considering how they styled the poor model there really was no where to go but up.

    • http://rockiinboxxe.blogspot.com/ KUR COL DE DAAB E NUBA

THE MODEL LOOKS SILLY AS SHIT.  AND THE LOOK ON HER FACE INDICATES IT AS WELL.

    • Anonymous

      Very pretty indeed.

      Okay, guys…….

Yes, yes, Mia looks great.  But what I really want to know is, what’s up with the sudden change to truncated RSS feeds today?  Are you that desperate for page views, that you’re going to force everyone to click through to read each and every post?  I want to believe it’s just a glitch……

    • sonictofu

Bazaar is doing SO many things right.  Vogue take note.

    • http://twitter.com/wednesdaydreams Natalie

She looks amazing. The shoot in general is just gorgeous.

Good GAWD the model pic is ridiculous!

    • Anonymous

Well, she was just the girl for that dress and the perfect styling made it even more so.
Surelly one of the best covers of the season for oh, so many reasons… it’s so easy on the eye, so smooth, with a Jane  yet contemporary feel to it. Perfect.
and i agree with everybody else, the poor model is styled ridiculously from head to toe.

    • foodycat

So much nicer than the runway look! Is that a plastic raincoat?

Looks good.  And it’s actually a cover shot that I can recognize the actress…doesn’t appear to be (too much) photoshopping.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1550881905 Hildegerd Haugen

She is such a cutie, and I love the make up.

    • Jessica Rowe

I love this look so much.  Why can’t I wear this to work.  WHY?

    • Anonymous

That’s an awesome shot of her.
She’s just sooooo pretty. I’d love to see her in person somewhere just so I can see if her skin really is that flawless.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Very flattering shot of Mia, but the dress looks appalling on the model.  Why is it covered in plastic like 70′s era sofa?

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

      I just love this girl!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BUKL3CV3Y66UWR7BWYJMPSDRR4 Annie

in a minute she’ll be yodeling in the alps

    • Anonymous

Hee. The model was styled by Jerry Tam, PR Season 5.

      • Anonymous

        That explains everything.

    • Anonymous

As the actress is wearing it, it’s a little too Bavarian Milkmaid, for me.  However, she is perfectly lovely and yes, the necklace and that modest little ring are just right.  Bravo

    • Anonymous

It’s nice that someone could show this look are wearable. She looks beautiful.

      i hate the pose

Mia looks fabulous – and I love the expression on her face. Why might she be saying F*ck You?

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

      LOVE IT. Absolutely perfect.

    • Anonymous

She looks pretty and dreamy. The dress is photographed to enhance its qualities and be striking for a cover, and… the actress is recognizable.

Take note, heavy-handed Vogue cover photoshoppers.

Having seen this editorial, there seems only one reasonable conclusion: it is adorable. The clothes are appropriate, given the Jane Eyre-inspired styling, and Mia looks beautiful!
