Rachel Zoe Resort 2012 Collection

Posted on May 12, 2011

Rachel Zoe unleashed her 2012 resort collection to the world and it’s very Zoe. VERY Zoe. So much so, that it’s almost impossible not to see her wearing these clothes. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with that. Pretty much every Carolina Herrera collection looks like dresses Carolina Herrera would wear.

It’s a collection of ’70s-inspired looks and to be honest, when we first heard that, we rolled our eyes a little, expecting some Studio 54-esque drama, like we saw a couple of seasons ago on the runways. Instead, it’s more of a “Mary and Rhoda” version of the decade;  mostly classic pieces, some with a little ’70s flair (or flare, when it comes to the pants), but many of which have a timeless appeal. We don’t OMG-LOVE every single piece, but for the gal who’s looking to build or repair a wardrobe, there are quite a few pieces here that would do the job nicely.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa that last pantsuit is giving me a rash, just thinking about the rashes I got from the hellacious polyester pantsuits my mom forced me to wear in the actual 70s. Aaaaaaaaa. NO no no no no.

      • andyleigh

Me, too! I’m all sweaty just looking at it. And while TLo may say flare, I can’t get “bell bottoms” out of my head.

These clothes are made for stick people. I can indeed see emaciated Rachel wearing most of these, especially the black shirt and bell bottoms with the long white sweater.

        • Glammy

Me three. I had a double-knit pantsuit in exactly that shade of purple as a kid. I used to wear it with a bright red velour peasant blouse. I honestly can’t judge this collection because it’s mixing with the memories.

          • BrooklynBomber

A velour peasant blouse? I’m trying to figure that one out! I remember the velour and I sure remember the peasant blouses (LOVED the peasant blouses!) but can’t get the two together in my mind!

          • Jean

Me four. I lived the 70s once. Reliving it on purpose is inconceivable.  Glammy – I had the same peasant blouse. My fourth grade picture makes me squirm.

      • tbk

My high school boyfriend had a quite hideous rust-colored leisure suit in the 70′s. Skeeves me out just thinking about it.

        • ItsDicey

I actually had a dark rust polyester suit in my senior year. I even have pictures…ugh! I guess it’s a wee bit better than a dude in same colored leisure sure? Probably not.

      • Me!

It must might BE 6 inches longer. Did you see how long the legs are on those models? Almost looks like they are on stilts in some of the pants pictures!

        • jessamyn

Absolutely! I kept thinking, this isn’t a girl, this is a giraffe! That blonde especially must be 6 feet tall and weigh 95 pounds. As a tall but not that-kind-of-tall girl myself, to me it just looks like she’s outgrown everything.

The funny thing is, if these are really clothes for Zoe to wear, they’re probably knee-length on her.

      • BrooklynBomber

Must amend my initial comment above to say that is a good dress.  I didn’t notice it at first. But is definitely too short for the likes of we-who-remember-the-’70s. The skirt part is no longer than the top part.

Even though I LOVE the black pantsuit with the long white coat, I can’t get over the fact that the model’s legs look to be the width of pipe-cleaners. Yikes! Hate the last look. My grandmother wore outfits quite similar, & she was not a lady who was concerned with fashion AT ALL.

I think part of the problem is they got models that look like Rachel Zoe lol. The shorter dresses are pretty cute.

      • Len

Yes they do look like Rachel Zoe and it was sort of creepy. I was not impressed with the collection other than white sweater coat/black pant suit.

Finally Is it necessary to include jeans, blazer and large satchel in her collection? I could go to my local Lord and Taylor for that look.

Seriously. I actually thought she *was* the model at first. Branch out a little, Rach! We don’t all look like you.

Yes!  Not a good styling choice.

Those are some freakishly long legs, on all both of them.

I think I’m one of the few people around here who really likes ’70s fashions. She’s smart about how she does: it’s not literal, and there’s a lot of updating.  But nothing gives me a fashion woody. In fact, the only one that comes close is the crazy the purple pantsuit. I didn’t like everything in her Fall collection,  but I think it was a little more exciting. but I think it was a little more exciting.

I’m mostly underwhelmed, but the clothes I like most here are very, extremely similar to some of my favorite (made me feel like a million bucks and/or made the eyes of the guy du jour light up) clothes of, um, several decades ago.

I will now retire to rub liniment into my “arthur-itis,” so that I will be up to a full day of peering out at my neighbors, yelling at the neighborhood kids and researching assisted living facilities tomorrow.

Earth to designers.  Earth to designers.  Real women – well, most real women – are not 6′ and 100 pounds.  And, many of those who can afford to buy your designs are old enough to remember bell bottoms, peasant shirts and ruffled dresses from the first time they came around and are long past ever wanting to wear them again.  I am 5′ 2″, ergo I do not have loooooong legs and because I am “petite”, the last thing I want to wear is a short dress with ruffles.  Can’t imagine very many woman much past 20 wanting to wear that look either, but maybe it’s just me…….. Can’t get past the impracticality and ruffles to really judge if I might like any of the pieces individually.

Had forgotten about RZ.  Is there a schedule for the return of her show?
Oh yeah, the clothes:  I was alive & well during the ’70s, and once was enough.

It is hilarious that the models look exactly like RZ except 7 feet tall.  I think the clothes are wearable and sellable for “average” women.  Not that exciting but nice.  I wore them in the 70′s and I like the look again.  Flares are good on most women.  Of course my skirts wouldn’t be that short.  Those are the skinniest models ever, I hate that!  Why do they want women to look like skeletons in makeup?

Photoshopped, and they’re wearing giant shoes under pants whose hems brush the floor.

I do see Rachel Zoe wearing EVERYTHING here. They even made the blond model kind of look like her, dirty blond hair, same skin tone, and extremely dark red lips.

Just what resort are you to go to with this collection? Fantasy Island where you could go back to the 70′s? (“da plane! da plane!”)

Lotsa meh with a little WTH for the “Donny Osmond purple pantsuit.”

I realize models are supposed to have long legs and look tall, but every single model wearing pants looks like some sort of weird creature with double-normal length legs.  It’s kinda creeping me out.

I dont like how they are styled like her. It appears to me she made clothes she wanted to wear and as a result they all make you look fatter and curvier.

All I can think of looking at that purple pantsuit is the Joker.

is it just me or all these modles weirdly bizzarly girafe-half-breed long leggeded? in a bad way.

      I’m 5’2″  I know how you feel.

I think Ms. Zoe is pretty short.. 5’3″ at the most.  Not for sure, but I’ve heard she’s the size of an 8 year old boy.  That’s why she is obsessed with platforms.
